Well I was way off on the ft of ice guess

Drilled Prob close to 40 holes btw 2 areas
And found consistent ice of 20-24in

Lots of drifting snow and hard finger drifts after couple hundred yards
Onto the Lk.

Numerous small ridges and a pretty good sized one from the se corner of the bay across to that point and
Out into Lk.  May be a tough cross there with anything but  4wd ford

We fished the pm in a wicked storm with blowing snow that cut vis to 100yd and s wind of close to 40mph
Our tracks and holes were pretty much covered by dark.
Good luck to any who heads out.  It's safe

Thanks for the info its great to know there is that much ice up there!  How was the fishing?

Hmmm so you think a 4x4 truck could still get around out there?  I just checked forecast and it looks like up to 4 inches possibly expected out there on saturday.  Do you think the lake would still be accessible by 4x4 trucks after that?

I am just trying to figure out where to take my old man this weekend and we do not have snowmobiles.  He would be fine walking out a moderate distance but based on my last trip to bittern i would probably want to be quite a ways away from the launch.  And i would hate to barely get out on the lake and then have 4 more inches of snow come down and have to try and get off the lake!!

I guess i will have to wait and see if the forecast stays the same.

Thanks again for the update!

If they get 4 more inches you will be fine.
Wont even be in issue

You can always take the road through the forest to the e that will take you right into a fairly good fishing bay.

Good luck.

The fishing was slow but but still great.  Will likely try a diff lake tmrw am

Heading up to bittern tomorrow morning. Anybody have any last minute tips for bittern or Montreal?  Or any other lakes in the area where a guy has a good chance to catch a few walleye and pike?  Need to have access with 4x4 truck. Bringing my girls.

Where does everyone generally access montreal lake?

Looks like there is a boat launch in the bay east and a bit south of ferguson island.

Anywhere else a road leads into the water?

Thanks

edit - also looks like one at the very south east end of the lake.

Can anyone comment on any of these or others?

I drove on at the boat launch by school but there was trucks on ice at timber bay. That was se of us. I believe there is a sign for timber bay. And I think its OK fishing

Can get on at both spots

There is also an old launch further up the lake

Timber bay can be very good.  Or very slow

That's fishing

Any updates lately for Bittern, how is the access at the normal launch.  Any updates on the bite also?  Thy usually don't block the road unless idiots are speeding down the road or dumping garbage everywhere.  I may head out on Saturday with the sled if it's tough to get on.

Was out at Bittern on last Thursday.  fished noon till 630.  3 different spots.  7 little pike and 3 walleye.   walleye all caught within 10 min of dark.  slow for Bittern.  lots of pressure ridges this year.  drive slow.  cheers.

Went to Bittern on Saturday December 20th and the fishing was the slowest I have ever seen it.  The good news was access to the lake was good and there were several trails on the lake.  You could basically drive anywhere with a truck as there is not much snow.  The ice was 17 inches and the water clarity was very good.  A few walleye around early in the morning but only pike after that.  The pike were active and attacking the hook which was great.

Lots of people out with the warm weather.  A least there was no road block up, if the idiots on sleds with their stupid mufflers keep up ripping in front of the house by the launch, I imagine the road will be shut down as if years past.

Only a few pictures of my new tent and gear.  My tow bar broke which sucked but I improvised with bungees.

Gloomy day with some snow and mist.

Has anyone been in to bittern lately?

I was told by a coworker who was up there over new years that there was an actual road closed sign up at the start of the road that heads south from the community of montreal lake???

They ended up fishing montreal with some average success.

Anyone who has been to bittern, can they comment on the conditions for driving a vehicle on the ice there?  My coworker was able to drive on to montreal lake.

Fished Bittern last weekend and had no problem getting around the lake with the truck.  Fishing wasn't too bad considering we didn't move because it was so cold.  The walleye started biting just before dark but caught numerous small pike a couple bigger ones throughout the day.

They probably closed the road because of the idiots on sleds and large trucks ripping up and down the road.  This is what I saw last time I was there.  It's sketchy to leave your truck up there during the day, now if they open the road, they will be looking for payback.

Just wondering if anyone has been out lately, how are the driving conditions?  Are you able to drive on? or is it sled in only?
