Eskimo Z71 Shark Viper Engine
« on: Dec 01, 2014, 04:12 PM »
All, I purchased this auger a few years ago slightly used/excellent condition. It's been fantastic. I never had any issues until last winter.  It would start fine and run great for 3 or 4 holes. At the 3rd or 4th hole the engine would bog down and you would have to open the choke a little just to keep it running in order to finish the hole.

Bad fuel mixture?  Carb adjustment needed?

Any help in identifying the possible cause and potential fix would be great.

Thanks

Dave

Gas cap not venting, crack the cap open and then try it to see if it still does the same thing.

The difference between an 8" hole and a 10" hole is.....a 10" hole will usually give you your boot back!

In the food chain of life...its not good to be referred to as: "a good eating size".

I suggest you repost here. I had a very similar problem with my Eskimo  33 Stingray, needed a carburetor rebuild. $11 kit. :

There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the ice looking like an idiot.

For what it is worth a new carb is pretty cheap compared to the rebuild kit.  Bolt on and go.  But you will need a special wrench to adjust the new carbs due to the EPA.

Next time when it starts to bog down open the cap, even if you have the new self venting cap. Mine did the same thing and a new cap from Ardisam fixed it.

my Z71 is about 5 years old and it has a tendency when running to vibrate the vent on the gas cap closed causing it to bog down and eventually die. Get a new cap or like I do just check it every few holes and crack it back open.

PS- I hardly ever use mine now that I have an ION! ;D
