NWT "Inconnu"
« on: Nov 26, 2014, 11:34 PM »
My buddy and I went out today. With the low light up here now we left town at 2pm as the sun was going down. We were going to hit the burbot as dark but gave ourselves a couple hours of Pike and Coney action.. We did the 20km sled ride in -30 and got set up. It didn't take long for my buddy to have a couple hits.  15 minutes into the trip he hooked into something solid. He had a hard time getting it up the hole. When it came onto the ice I couldn't believe how big it was!!!!  Caught on a traditional moose bone hook. We ended up catching 5 of these guys and 5 pike. The burbot started at 430 and we caught close to 30 in an hour... Great evening on the ice

Awesome fish!

Would you happen to have a picture of a traditional moose bone hook? Sounds cool!

Here it is!!! This one is actually Muskox....  It has red felt with a piece of rubber holding it on. The hook is a nail. It looks crazy but man do they work well!!!!

I thought we had it tough here......Guess I should rethink what cold really is.  Nice fish - especially through the ice.  You are for sure a die hard ice fisherman.

You may have something to ponder, the bone hook would have a smoother action than the modern silver or gold metal jigging spoon.  Would be fun to know what a big pike thinks of one.
