Antero Ice 11/26/14
« on: Nov 26, 2014, 03:14 PM »
Well I just got back from Antero at 1:00 pm . We have lost about 3" plus of ice in the last day or two. There are many open spots of water with high warm winds and temp were 45 deg. I saw about 15 people out on the ice . I am a guy That will personally go out on 2-1/2 too 3 inches of hard fresh ice but what I saw up there today I DO NOT recommend anyone venturing out on the ice.

As far as Tarryall goes I don't have any reports from there but once again warm temps above 40 and high warm winds eat the ice.

Eleven Mile has lost what little ice it had and is for the most part Gone some skim around Cross Creek area.

Good luck stay safe .

Chris

Good report, I am sure people need to stay off ice that has been melting. If the ice has thinned out the rest of it is surely weaker.

Thank you for the report I was planning on going Saturday. You saved me a three and a half hour drive. Looks like it will be a verrrrry long four day weekend.   >:(

Thanks for the report - definitely not worth the risk.  Plenty of safer ice if you know where to look... @)

I'm sure many of us remember back a few years when Antero froze and then opened back up just as it's doing now. Last time it happened I was able to rescue the trip by having a couple of spinning rods along set up with a slip bobber rig. Just tie your ice jig and worm on the end of that. If your fishing off that rock jetty at the south boat dock the water depth is only 5' to 6' as I recall so it's easy to set your bobber stop to be right off the bottom. Be prepared. make do.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.
