Efco auger tr 1551 does not like the cold
« on: Nov 25, 2014, 05:14 AM »
Ok, this is for the 2 stroke motor experts, got this auger as a back up for my tanaka, it was on sale half price, couldn't resist!  It runs perfect down to -5C(canadian), then it seems like its not getting enough fuel?

Just looking at the manual now and there is a idle speed adjustment, there is also a high jet(H) and low jet(L) adjustment, my question is what should I adjust, we are getting some cold weather here right now so its a good time to get this thing running properly.

Any advice/help would be hugely appreciated!

I would open the high speed like a 1/4 turn.

Thanks bee, did you the high jet(H) or the idle speed?

Took it in to a small engine repair shop close to home to have it tuned in cold weather, plus the high and low idle speed adjustment screws require a special tool to remove caps that prevent any tampering they are for emissions, anyway I took it out yesterday it was -10C with a strong wind and it started and ran perfect, now I just need to test it in some colder weather.  I mated this auger to a strikemaster 10" chipper, worked great

Your Tanaka also has a high speed adjustment but it is hidden. If it starts to give you problems it can be adjusted by finding the protective plastic cap and removing it. Then the adj screw can be reset.
