Underwater Cameras
« on: Nov 24, 2014, 01:50 PM »
I am thinking about an underwater camera. I sure don't need it, but I think it would be fun. My wife and grandson would have a ball with it too. I am not a rocket scientist so I don't want any thing too complicated. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
Thank you Lord for thinkin bout me. I'm alive and doin fine!!!!!!

Great tool for learning a lot... If the water you fish is cloudy/badly stained, then it limits the camera's use a great deal.

Most camera units are pretty straight forward on how to use them. They don't require a lot of learning to use them. If you choose a unit above the entry level ones you will be pleased with the picture quality. I would say buy a color unit. A pan can be a nice addition to entertain them when they don't see fish and they don't have to manually turn the camera.

Most of them are pretty simple to use.  Personally, I'd look for a used one.  There are lots and lots of used Aqua Vu Scouts and Fish TV cameras on Craigslist here.  You should be able to get a serviceable camera that is easy to use for $100.  You'll want to get some sort of camera control too.  Either a tripod or some other type device that will help you control which way the camera is facing.  The Aqua Vu tripod is $15 new.

I have a Marcum and love it,I had a black & white Aqua View but it died after 10 years.
I love the Marcum 625 I have now.If you have clear water where you fish I would spend the
money and get something decent and middle of the road,if you are in stained or murky water
I would just get a cheaper black & white model.

AuqaVu is cheap and easy to use basically plug in a few wires and drop it down. I will say that the ones with the cameras that look like a fish are best they dont spook the fish as much.

However funny thing is they are so real looking that one day my buddy and I had his out in the spring looking for Giant cats at a near by dam and one come out and ate his camera after about one minute of fighting it tore the camera off the cord. The only thing we wished was that the camera had a record feature lol. It was pretty crazy to see what it would be like to be a little game fish being eaten lol

I have the marcum 625, it works great. Shows a lot of detail( brush, bottom contour,as well as what type of fish are around). Stained water is only seen in black and white as they said above. It's worth it to me, I love it. Good luck and tight lines  :icefish:

I finally got to use my camera Saturday. Absolutely awesome. Saw pike, gills, a big bass. Watched gills take my jig and spit it out. I never detected it. VERY educational!!!!!

They are a great additional tool to really learn what goes on down there. The flasher will historically be the best everyday use tool, but on slower days the camera really helps. Also, if it's in your budget I'd recommend one with the built in DVR. I use mine for doing homework when I'm at home and can play back to see close detail of how fish act. It helped me learn detail of days when fish bite so light you can't detect by feel or sight but fish are ACTIVELY feeding all day! The camera is real time so when you see them take it, set the hook!

Heres some underwater action from today, not sure if it was a pike or a musky.
But don't quote me on that. I have a drinking problem, I keep running out of beer. I've always been a little bit crazy, but its kept me from going insane.

When we had to ride to School (House Rock) on our dinosaurs uphill.....both ways....in 2 feet of snow!

Even with all the "gizmos" I still like to test my skills by going at it "old school" (No electronics) to see if I can truly "catch" a fish!

My Marcum has an arrow on the screen that tells which way the camera is facing. It also tells its depth. Point it to your lure and watch.
