"Magic" brand pack of preserved minnows.
« on: Nov 23, 2014, 11:48 PM »
I was shopping at Wal-Mart and bought a pack of small "Magic" brand minnows. I plan to use these to tip jigs and lures for perch. About $3.20 for 40-50. Has anybody ever used these?

I've seen them and thought about buying them but never went through with it since maggots work so good.

I just salted 10 dozen 1-3 inch minnows yesturday. The process was very easy and very affordable. You can use the search option on this site and make your own tipping bait. My experience with Store bought baits (in jars or ziplock bags) has been good. They definately are a great option-but not a better option than maggots, waxies, mealworms, or butterworms for panfish.
So many fish, so little time.

I've used them, in fact I caught my largest pike on one. Got tired of chipping frozen minnows.

They seem to work just fine. Although there's no perfect substitution for live minnows, where you can use them.
