The difference between an 8" hole and a 10" hole is.....a 10" hole will usually give you your boot back!

In the food chain of life...its not good to be referred to as: "a good eating size".

NeverWet will work but it will put a frosty look to the fabric so if you are into appearance you might want to test it on a spot first

I use this stuff called nikiwax it is a wash in fabric waterproofing. Ill get a big bucket and fill it with warm water and soak it in the nikiwax and water for a few hours then hang to dry.

+1 on the Nikwax.  I have used this product many times for my high end Mountain Hardware and Big Agnes sleeping bags.  It protects and also maintains breathability.  Check out their website at http://www.nikwax-usa.com/en-us/productselector/waterproofing.php

I have used silicone waterproofing spray it works good and is no where near the price of some of the other products mentioned
