welcome to the Beginning of the start of 2014/2015 Hardwater fishing season in Manitoba..

so much to say but so many Photo's to load , 

WOW.. Best Trout Fishing Trip Ever..    13 Master Angler Trout between 4 of us ....  30+   18" or under Trout and countless dropped fish at the hole..

Hair jigs , rattle baits , small bug jigs ,  killed them!!!!

OMG mikeypikey! That is a real collection of p-i-g HAWGS! Did you leave any for everybody else? Since I'm a damyankee, I have no idea where the Parkland area is. Maybe I could try hooking up with Blue Igloo and bribing him into telling me where it is! Whadda ya say Blue? Seriously mikeypikey good on ya, as the Aussie's might say. That's one of the best batch's of trout I've ever seen that were caught through the ice. One that any trout fisherman would be proud of! And of course, luck had nothing to do with your catching them! Right mikey? Of course right! :roflmao:You mentioned some of the lure's you were using. Did you add any live bait to those lure's? Like mousee's or waxie's, if you are able to get them up there. Was an epic day!!! I'm still on a high all possible with a lot of work by everyone thanks to Mikey Kelsey and James for helping make this trip possible! I caught 5 of those masters 24.5" 22.5" 22" and a 21" rainbow as well as a 22" brown!! Unforgettable trip!!

Beautiful fish mikey and crew. I heard a rumour they were going to kill off Patterson and tokaryk because someone stocked them with perch and pike. Does anyone have any information on that? Or was that faulty info? It would be beyond a shame to see those two fisheries die because of some moron(s).

The rumour might be  1/2 true .
In the morning two fellows were fishing just west of us
One of the guys walked over to talk and ask how it was going?

So we asked how his day was going and he mentioned they caught a small pike.
We never seen it or asked if they removed the pike.. 

But if that's true . (Shaking my head) might be big big trouble.

On behalf of the fisheries managers and biologists in the Western Region:

Fisheries Branch is aware of the reports of northern pike and yellow perch in Tokaryk and Patterson Lakes. These lakes will be will be the top priority for assessment next spring to determine the status of the fish community.

Aerators will be operated as usual on both lakes this winter and no chemicals will be used on either waterbody.

If you have further questions, please contact the Western Region Fisheries Manager, Ian Kitch, at 734-8350.

I would encourage all forum members to contact their local fisheries mangers and biologists when these types of situations arise. This will help us receive new information immediately and it will also help prevent misinformation from spreading.

greenbackhunter...Thx for getting the straight goods from the horse's mouth and sharing it... we can always get lots from the other end in situations like this. Surprised someone hasn't substantiated this with a picture...

Be a shame to lose these lakes... a la Silver Beach... I remember when the pike took over SB... we left the dock and were heading for the honeyhole... buddy spotted pike waiting in the canes, one after another!!! We had heard stories the year before and before you knew it they took over.

Gonna be real sad if I see a pike or perch looking up at me next weekend... Lots of money and effort to create this trophy fishery will be wasted. It will take years to rebuild, if it ever happens with the tight budgets for these type of things today.

Quick question, did you walk out on the lake or did u get sleds or an atv? I have 2 snowmobiles but is there enough snow? Or is walking out the way to go? Thinking of heading down

not the biggest lake but not the smallest
Ice is thick enough to drive a quad or sled for sure
But good fishing is walking distance
Trout are moving fish , they seem to do laps around the lake
Find a good area and they will swim by soon enough .
Just hope your using the right lure they want when they come by.

Here's a 15" rainbow i caught from patterson that had a nice gash on it ,
( it was a fresh wound)
 
 caused by line burn, eagle , boat prop , a guys poor filleting skills or maybe a pike that are rumor of being in the lake ..
