Bloomington Area
« on: Nov 19, 2014, 11:53 AM »
I live right off White Oak lake and noticed as I drove down White Oak Road this morning  that the lake has substantially more ice than it did yesterday or the day before. The ponds by Country's HQ also have been iced over each of the last 3 days. After looking at the extended forecast, I hope the waters I ice fish are safe by early-mid December. Still an ice fishing novice and would much rather play it safe than be cold and wet.

Skim ice covering White Oak again this morning. If these temps would hold for a few days, we could get out on the ice, but the extended forecast isn't looking good for safe ice any time soon around here.

Hello all, I live over in the Mackinaw area but fish all over. I am planning to hit the ice somewhere in the central IL area tomorrow. Anyone else going out and want to meet up? Would certainly rather fish with others than head out solo on early ice. If anyone is interested in fishing at Heritage Lake in Mackinaw I bet we could find safe ice on the back end of the lake even if it isn't ready on the main portion. Plan to drill a couple test holes after work today just to see how thick it is currently. As cold as the last couple days have been, I would think most of the smaller lakes in the area would be just about ready.

Reelman,
Welcome. How do your Sundays look? I am usually in the Secor area every Sunday. Would love to hook up.

Sundays are usually pretty open. Just let me know when you want to try and get out. Seen your post signed Manny. Is this Labman from CLF?

popped a couple holes off the dock at Heritage lake this evening. 4 1/2 inches in the first and a little over 5 in the second.

Gave Heritage a try today. Ice was between 5 and 6 today. Got a few crappie and gills. ended up with 4 I decided to keep. Definitely headed back out in the morning. Quite a few crappie hanging around that didn't want to commit.

Weekends have filled up far too quickly for me lately. Haven't gotten out at all yet this year. Had enough time to take the dog on a walk around White Oak today. Looked like real solid ice all over. Walked out onto the edge for a second and it felt real sturdy. Of course that doesn't mean anything since I didn't check the thickness at all.

Also, I'm planning on heading out next weekend. Private late in Eastern McLean county. Will post an update after that trip. Maybe some pics too if we get anything worthwhile.
