Heaviest line I use on my rods is 8lb, landed many pike between 15-20lbs through the ice on it, having your drag set right and fighting the fish right is key. Last winter I landed a 17lb pike on 4lb line while perch fishing
Good day on Pasqua limit in eyes and threw lots back and 2 guys this size on rod and reel
Just wonder what peeps are using for line. For years I have used boards rigged up so each wrap of the line was a foot water depth when letting line down. Used 20-40 lb test. Last couple years I have switched to reels. I have 4,6,8,10 lb test ice line. I find I can break this line with my hands quite easy, and tend to risk having my line broke if a fish is over 3-4 lbs. I have never had a problem with breaking line when I used boards. Can a person go with a heavier line on these ice reels. I have several rod/reel combo's and the highest they are rated for is 10 lb test. Thanks!
