Just wonder what peeps are using for line.  For years I have used boards rigged up so each wrap of the line was a foot water depth when letting line down.  Used 20-40 lb test.  Last couple years I have switched to reels.  I have 4,6,8,10 lb test ice line.  I find I can break this line with my hands quite easy, and tend to risk having my line broke if a fish is over 3-4 lbs.  I have never had a problem with breaking line when I used boards.  Can a person go with a heavier line on these ice reels.  I have several rod/reel combo's and the highest they are rated for is 10 lb test.

Thanks!

Heaviest line I use on my rods is 8lb, landed many pike between 15-20lbs through the ice on it, having your drag set right and fighting the fish right is key. Last winter I landed a 17lb pike on 4lb line while perch fishing

I'll second that. You may have a longer fight then just bringing em in. Makes it all the more fun!

Hunt2001, where is your shack?

Is anyone out today? Stupid rain and iced roads are keeping us home... 😓

I run a little facebook group called 306 Hunters! I want to do a "everyone get out and fish" more so for the bullcrap and coffee but also a little fishing action. Where are guys driving on and its still safe? My idea was Fort San or at the end of Pasqua, past lutherland on the boat launch. Maybe across the lake from La Bret. What do you guys think? I was going to try and make it out tomorrow to give a few spots a try.

Katepwa today was decent. But the fish are DEEP!!!
Caught one fish @22 FOW. Everything else was 25-40.
Ended up with 9 perch, 8 walleye, 5 tullibee and 1 pike. Only one keeper walleye, but nice to see the fish active. Tip-up was silent the whole day in 10FOW.

Good numbers on mission today for perch and walleye. Perch averaged 8" to 10" with three pushing 13"+. Walleye were comically small for the most part with only 1 keeper (maybe 1.5lbs). 29 ft of water hitting anything with a minnow but was using a pk glow dot all day. Got to test out the new marcum Lx9 and think I'm going to like it. That camera panner is pretty slick too.

Decent day today for a solo trip. fished from 2-6 at the shack on Pasqua, got 12 pike biggest was 11lbs with the majority in the 5-8lb range and a couple small ones. Not too bad considering how dead it's been latey around the shack.
