We have ice!
« on: Nov 14, 2014, 11:36 AM »
I found a 30 acre lake completely frozen over yesterday with low temp of minus -4° coming tonight. I quite possibly could be ice fishing this weekend.

A gravel pit 10 miles from my house had 2 1/2" yesterday. Hoping to be fishing there by the end of this weekend, no weather above freezing in the forecast. I also have a small 1/4 acre pond by my house that has 4 inches as of today.

everything is pretty much locked up here in price/ashland county. i have -0 for most the night so should have been making some good ice. some fluffy snow on top but that shouldnt hurt to much. had an ice the other day, should be close to 3-4 today. 3 more days of work and then its on! this is the earliest i remember it freezing over..!!

here around Wautoma, the shallower, smaller lakes are ice covered.  It's going to be at least a week before I venture out though.  I need more ice now than I did when I was younger.
Shut up and fish.

I didn't make it out yet, but I am going to check ice tomorrow on 2 small lakes. I like at least 3" since I weigh 220 lbs. I drove by a 900+ acre lake 50 ft max depth, that was almost totally frozen over today, it should lock up tonight. Earliest I ever remember that size lake freezing up.

Was out today, earliest I have ever been out. Found 3" of ice in most places I looked. Saw a handful of guys fishing. Bite was pretty slow throughout the day but had a good run to finish.

Took home some nice eating size walleye.

Going to check a 20 acre lake near the house which freezes very quickly usually. 12 feet max, most of it 4-5. Got 3 beautiful pike last year on 4" of ice. We used small perch (too cheap to buy shiners). It had 2" 2 days ago.

Going to check out the lakes around Danbury during Turkey weekend, probably throw the rifle in the fishing sled just in case a deer walks out.

Got out on Lake Onalaska for a couple hours today.  Couple monster gills, a couple not monster gills, and a decent bass on a tipup that I couldn't get topside because the hole had iced over too much.  Good to be out and shake off the rust.

We definitely have fishable ice but going to be deer hunting this weekend. Most all the big lakes around here froze over last night, it was dead calm and got down to minus -15°f

I got out last week Wednesday by myself on my early ice spot in Southeastern WI, had a good 3-4" of ice.  Caught a couple bass, a pike, and about 25 gills in 90 minutes, kept 15 gills.

Almost every time I take my wife ice fishing, we have horrible trips where she might catch a few... but she very rarely wants to go.  Mostly because she likes to sleep in rather than be on the ice as the sun is coming up.  She had off Friday, and told me she wanted to ice fish.  Excited, I took off work Friday and got her out to my spot around noon, which now had 5" of ice.  Hit the same areas and we slayed the gills.  Kept 28 that were 7" up to 8.5".  Tip ups weren't getting hit though, so I tried a new spot and there was a flurry of flags, and I let her get them all... few pike and a couple nice bass.  She also caught that sucker on a jig rod which put up a good fight!  She had a blast, her "best fishing trip ever" where she caught her biggest gill, biggest bass and biggest pike ever.  Love it when the fish cooperate!

Hopefully the ice firms back up for next weekend, otherwise I'll be in the kayak fishing browns in Milwaukee.

I'm hoping for some safe ice in the Madison area on Friday. Was out there on this past Saturday with 3+" of good clear ice but then the rain and warm temps came on Saturday night and Sunday. Looks to be cold throughout this week though so hopefully I can get back out on Friday
