Here is some aerial footage I took with my quadcopter out of Constantia today. As you can see there is not many people out there. I wish I could have went further but my battery was low to start with. No ones secret spots are safe now.

With a full battery how far can you fly the copter and safely return it back to you.   This will be a great tool for next year ice conditions.  You will be invaluable.

That's cool as heck!! Was beautiful out there today. Only iced 5 jumbos, but it was great to be out without getting hammered with wind!  Conditions were good. The top softened up a bit with the sun but it was pretty nice walking. I also got buzzed by 2 planes that were flying around the lake really low!  Pretty wild, the 2nd plane was so close I could see the pilots face. Unreal lol. Back to the high winds tomorrow

Was a tough bite for me out of Chapman's this morning in 25' but managed 5 perch out of the dozen that came on the screen.  2 were nice jumbos that almost reached 13" and thought both were walleyes as I was hauling them up as I was jigging a large copper attractor spoon with a small low hanging hook w/minnow head.  Awesome walking but the walk back was slick as the sun was melting off the crust, definitely needed the creepers.
I prefer a 2oz sinker for perch...when it hits 'em they won't feel a thing

Travis, those pictures and video were great, thanks for sharing!!!  Really neat seeing those anglers way out there in the distance in the one picture!!!  Now I am sure you could pay for your hobby by delivering refreshments out on the lake with that cool little flying machine

I always thought it would be a good idea if the local news or the State Police flew a chopper around the lake early and late in the season to show conditions, especially late season when the creeks are flowing into the lake and eroding the ice, or even the pressure cracks. I think drones like yours Travis could be the answer. It does take great photos too! You could be, Travis "The hovering ice reporter".  ;D

As you know I post the good with the bad, walked out of Constancia on Saturday, all the way past grassy .... 1.3 miles one way, hit 3 separate holes 4 drop offs in the area from wantry too grassy and back... these areas always produce march slobs, found 6 feet of 6 inch perch in every hole I drilled , fishfinder looked like a christmas tree.....caught 1 12 incher and a bunch of nice waldos....called it at 2 pm, just couldn't handle the 6 inch perch no longer, strange always done well there in late season, ice was 2 feet in many areas some places 3 feet thick.

I fished this morning until 10 but never caught a fish after 7:45. In the first hour I caught 11 perch and kept 8 good ones.

The ice is still awesome...

Stopped by the Scriba Creek Hatchery today , needless to say they are a little concerned about the ice .If it stays too late they wont be able to net for egg collection , The eyes will spawn ice or not they don't care, They said only one time in the late 1950,s that they got out too late and the fish had already done the deed. They have kept records since 1845,with latest ice outs april 25th in1881 and1891

With a full battery how far can you fly the copter and safely return it back to you.   This will be a great tool for next year ice conditions.  You will be invaluable.

I get 20 minutes on a full battery. The quadcopter will go 25 to 30 mph. The range for manual control is 1500 meters. You can set the quadcopter to do a totally autonomous flight that will take you beyond what your manual flight range is. It's all GPS controlled you can select a flight path on your phone or tablet while looking at a map similar to what you would see on google earth. You just select waypoints and altitudes for each one and the quadcopter will take off and fly to all those waypoints and land back within 5 feet of where it took off. And for the comment regarding the FAA please check the regulations before posting a comment. I was in line of sight under 400 feet and not using it for commercial use. I was over an open lake with no one around. I will try to get out this weekend and survey the damage the warmup causes.

Devo I would love to be able to do that but that idea has allready been thought of by someone and defeated by the FAA. There was a group in Wisconsin  that was doing that until the FAA sent them a cease and desist letter because they were using a quadcopterfor a  commercial purpose. Allthough if the service was free I think it would be legal. If you google drone beer delivery you will see the story.

I decided to head back out this evening with my son for his first trip on the ice.

I kept the trip short so we only stayed for a little over an hour. We ended up catching 6 perch and kept 3.

He was most interested in poking them in the eye.   ;D

I have not been to Godfrey's in a while but the Cleveland ice is great. Just pay attention to that creek on the East side of the Godfrey launch. Also the top layer and snowy section along shore are getting soft in the afternoon. 4 wheelers could have some issues late in the day in spots.

Nice photos Reeleyz, it's nice to see you guys teaching your kids to fish. That young man on Keuka Lake was kool too. They hammered em!

Well, I've got snow geese in the cornfield behind my place...it's all over but the singing now!  ;D
