Walk straight out till you get into 18-20' of h2o. Maggots on most any type of jig will catch fish for you. Start with a red Swedish Pimple and expand from there. Pink, white, red always seem to work well.

Sorry, I don't have any other details on location, maybe near red bridge?  Ice looks pretty good to me, but it hasn't been on very long and it's a big lake.  I would avoid springs around the pump house and towards red bridge to be safe.

The board at missoula sportsmans warehouse said 5-7" on georgetown and that doesnt seem quite right looking at the reports on here.

I wouldn't believe a thing that comes off those boards, considering most of the guys who work in stores do nothing but store fish. All they Know is what they read on the box or here from others. Always check for yourself!

As asked, here's the latest on Rainbow, AKA Dog Lake.  1.5" @ shore w/2" of water on top.  20 yards out is 4" of good solid ice.  Wind was brutal today w/rain & snow. Perch were small & slow.  Kept 6 between 9"-12" out of 16 caught.  One pike @ 3# (released) & one brute that broke my perch jig line.  Warmer weather may make getting onto the ice a challenge.  No other ice heads on the lake today.  Give it another 10 days unless we get colder weather.

Missoulafish, funny that does that.

Anyways I live just over the border in Idaho and fished a small pond that gets stocked with rainbows during the summer. The weather seemed to have no affect on the ice other than throwing an inch or so of water on top. With the snow here it turned it to slush. Fishing was good, only fished about and hour and landed 9. Ice was 4 1/2 to 5 inches thick. Cant wait to start hitting up some of the Montana lakes! Ive only targeted a few but maybe this year I'll start fishing for walleye and perch. Thanks again all!

Garrett, try canning them, turns out great!

That's the one, snow will soon make it inaccessible except by foot or snowmobile soon. I have fished many other lakes over here in the summer, but not the winter though. Most of the other lakes are quite a drive/hike even in the summer. Most of them have small cutthroat and that's it. A few have some slightly bigger ones (12-17 inchers), but thats a rarity. The trout in that pond are almost that size (9-13"). Just doesn't quite fix my itch though.
