Drove out yesterday . Lots of water on the ice but still lots of ice. I know with this warm weather it will be turning soft soon so for me this will be the last week-end driving out. North end getting rutted up but still can get on easy enough. Caught 2 1/2 lb walleye and 8 perch

Checked the park entrance yesterday and the south dam today. Ice is dry and strong at the south end, but wet mid-section near the entrance. Perch is still deep over 20 fow. Small walleyes are as shallow as 10 fow.

Any word on ice conditions?  Maybe head out Saturday if it's still ok.

Ice was good today. Easy to walk around on since it WASNT slick.  Good luck.
Get outside.  It does a body and mind good!

I was at the park boat launch last evening. There was plenty of open water along the shore. Ice was still over 3' thick but permeated with water already. The layer of soft and dry grains of ice provided perfect grip for walking. DO NOT drive on.

Fished 9:30-2:00 . I brought the ladder in case there was a good gap between shore and ice but there was no water at shore we walked right on . No standing water on ice. Fish were there but not in a biting mood. Caught 3 perch two little eyes. Had a decent eye get off below the ice. Got a good sunburn.

BigJumb, were you at the north end or south of the causeway? Anyone else out over the weekend? Thinking of going out to the north end for one last evening bite, but only if it's safe/dry to walk onto the lake.

north end. just south of shields. at the Pumphouse. fished from 11 feet to 20. Fish were in all depths. I found a honey hole that had big fish coming through at 20 feet consistently. But fish weren't in a big biting mood.

I drove to the north end, then Shields, then the park. Story was the same everywhere, 10-20 feet of rotted ice and open water to cross, and still questionable looking after that. Drove back to the city and fished the river for a half our instead. No fish and lost 4 hooks, reminding me why I seldom ever fish the river.

Till next year...

I managed to get out this morning and was happy that the lake was not at all crowded. I got 3 or 4 good sized pike, and the biggest Walleye I have taken from Blackstrap. Cant wait to try again tomorrow.

Hi Warren. Blackstrap is in the central zone and closed between March 31st and May 5th. So it's probably not a good idea to go again tomorrow  ;)
