Best lake trout fishing I've ever had was in kingmere lake in pa national park. In mid summer in 100' of water. Heavy laker population in that lake but u cannot acces the lake with a motor boat and I have never ice fished it.

I am pretty sure that the only lake open to ice fishing in the park is Waskesiu Lake.

Drove out on Coteau yesterday ice was a good 15plus inches, drove on at boat launch and went west, few other trucks out there fishing was slow. Heard the main lake has 10 inches.

Hey guys. I've never ice fished for trout. I was thinkin of heading to diefenbaker lake next weekend and was just wondering if anyone could point me in a area where I can get on the lake and maybe snag a few little rainbows. I'm not askin for anyone's honey hole jus a decent lead to where to try. Some help would be great I jus don't know much about diefenbaker.

Dief is a hard place to fish and especially targeting trout. Very rare you can get in to a mess of them.  I'd start at Gardiner dam - spill way can be good and also outside of Coteau bay, or general area.  If your up for a drive head down to lucky lake area.

Nice trout Slamhound, those buggers taste so damn good too. My buddy for the first time that I had seen filleted the thing like any other fish and just fried it but we normal just chop the head off rip the guts out and stuff it full of tastey treats and put it on the BBQ. If anyone else has some hot tips for preparing trout I'm all ears!

Road access off highway 19. Cp usually keeps it clear. Can blow in pretty good.  Fishing there has been slow, as with everywhere.  Ice is good just have to be careful at far end where gate for river is.  Use caution walking te rocks, you will Litterally break a leg if not carful

yes...i have but i got on the lk. at elbow and drove all the way south.....i would not advise it if your not familiar with the many gas wells on the lk. Very dangerous lk to travel on ice!

Does anyone know what the ice is like currently in elbow harbor and possibly tufts bay (just north of elbow harbor).  Has anyone been driving on those two bays?  Any idea what the ice is like just out from those bays?  Are the access both cleared or at least good enough to drive on (if ice is good enough)?  I assume elbow harbor has good access as every time i have been there in the winter it looks like it is actively used and someone maintains the access.  Im not so sure about the tufts bay boat launch though?

Maybe if the ice on the big lake is not trust worthy enough at this point i could drive out on to the bay and then walk from there to make it easier on my old man.  I would only intend to follow the shoreline on the main lake too, no crossing the lake for this guy!  From what i read earlier in this thread it seemed like coteau  bay had enough ice for driving on (15 inches as of a bit ago).  I would assume that elbow harbor bay and tufts bay might be similar or possibly slightly behind?

Thanks for any help and good luck to everyone!

People have been driving on in the harbour and tuffs for a while now. Lake froze up real nice and smooth with no snow cover this year. Should make for some good ice and a great season. The 3 arms froze up long before the main area. I'd not venture out in a vehical yet.  Bite has been slow hopefully that changes in the next 30 mins when I head out. I'm taking the sled and going on a bit if a run and gun day.
