Colorado Ice Shanty Gathering?
« on: Nov 11, 2014, 03:38 PM »
Would anyone be interested this year?  Some fun, food, fools, and maybe even a few fish?
Just throwing it out there, as I had fun at the MA gatherings of ice fishing fools.  :)

Not sure -- totally up to everyone else.  Maybe January some time?  Could be at a metro spot or up in the high country.
Just wanted to see if there is any interest here in CO.

I'm interested but I'm out of town Jan 14-18 and I think the last weekend in January.  Anywhere within 3hrs of Longmont would be good with me.

Nothing like a good GTG. If you can get a list of lakes that people like and a list of dates. I can start a poll for each and let the masses decided when and where.

Mile would be fun if its a earlier date. Place fish's better early ice. Who knows maybe there will be a good perch bite at a metro lake this year and keep it local. Ice fishing is a social thing IMO

Just got to remember. Colorado doesn't allow Party fishing. I have nothing against it but some Rangers will. It is in the Reg's.

Lefty, I think "party fishing" refers to sharing fish between members of a group.  This wouldn't apply to us as long as we are all valid license holders and each keep our own legal limits.  As far as I know, the term (which I couldn't even find in the regs) doesn't apply to social gatherings on the ice.

From the regs:

"DONATING FISH: You can donate edible parts of fish to like-license holders anywhere or to anyone at the recipient’s home. Donor and recipient subject to bag and possession limits. A“like-license” is a Colorado fishing license."

Bigassbassman is correct.  The only other thing you have to avoid is calling it a tournament or contest (of any kind). Potluck is fine.  Other than that, just keep it to some guys meeting up on the ice to fish together.

I'm down. If 11-mile Its better to do it early like december cuase it gets freekin cold and the fishing is better early ice.  If the Crack January early-mid is great.

Party drinking is the only thing we need to worry about-- ;)

Well I remember a few guys a couple of years ago at ElevenMile got ticketed for just being a group fishing together. So you might check it out on the Fish Explorer where I read it. Like I said it was about 2 years ago.

I was at Lake John last year on a particularly busy day, and I would characterize some of the collections of people as large parties, and they were cooking up batches of food for all and having a great time together.

There is nothing wrong with a meet and greet etc on the ice from the wardens. The FX guys got in trouble because they threw some prizes into a pot big fish etc.

Well, heck -- let's try two gatherings.  One in December at the Mile, and one in January at the Crack.  If you can make one, or both -- great!
And as Slayer suggested, "Party Drinking" may occur.   ;)

Let's start with the Mile in December.  Please post who's going, what you can bring, and what date(s) work best for you.

My preferred dates for the Mile are:
Sunday, Dec 7
Sunday, Dec 14
Saturday, Dec 20
Sunday, Dec 21
Saturday, Dec 27
Sunday, Dec 28

I can bring brats and brewskies.

I like Dec. 7th at the mile also. Ice permitting of course.

Im not saying anything about alcohol cause anything over 3.2 is illegal there.

Ill have to think on what to bring.

Dec 7th is one of the last Broncos home games, so I'd pass on that one.  The 6th is fine

I'll be in Nebraska for muzzleloader deer and maybe some ice fishing that weekend.  You guys can have fun without me and maybe I'll hit the January gathering.

Another reason I like the 6th is because I also have the 8th off. I can rest up Sunday and watch the Broncos and ice fish again on Monday. ;D
