Hey all,
Me and a couple buddies have a trip to Tobin planned for beginning of March but have never fished there.
Does anyone have any suggestions for winter fishing spots?
What do you use for targeting big pike on that lake?
What do you use for walleye bait?
Any info and advice is appreciated.
Thanks and Cheers!
:)

Tipups always work best for me. I'm trying to find 12" plus bait for my trip in march. But pikemaster catches the big girls jigging!  He might be able to help
Anyone know where I can find bait that big?

I bet. One of the main reasons the lead truck this weekend will be a Ford with 5" lift and 35's. I'll definitely report conditions after day 1.

Ford eh..... My s10 will pull u out of the way and make the trail bud! No worries. Save you a tow truck!

Lol.... Jig on. 'twas a lill joke.....
Jig on!

Any reports on how driving off the beaten path is, I was out a week ago got stuck twice with a lifted half ton and it was pretty drifted then, and we have gotten a touch more snow and allot more wind, are guys still venturing off path with trucks? I am bringing sleds this weekend no matter what anyway, but thought I would check.

Is anyone driving trucks on the flats? Or just snomobiles?

There was a road out to shanty town last weekend shouldn't have any trouble making out onto the flats with a truck.

Planning on heading out early next week to the flats.  Have never been. What is the best spot to drive on?

carrols cove or prudents on north side or resort village on south side best bet and easiest to get on and off

Just wondering if there is any sense going to Tobin if we don't have a snowmobile? Have a Chevy Z71 4x4 and were wanting to try the flats.

Thanks for any info.

you'd be fine without a snowmobile, the main flats entry is pretty clear, just don't be crazy and try breaking trail, there are some hard drifts that slow you down enough that you'll hit bare ice in no time without tire chains.

Was out to the flats for the first time in a few years yesterday. The wind and snow that came yesterday might make things a bit more interesting out there. Took us awhile to get off because it was basically a whiteout. First was slow. 3 groups of us... 2 groups each caught a decent pike and the other caught a handful of walleye and perch. Was a fun day overall though.

Any updates on how Tobin is for driving around right now after the last dump of snow? Has anyone been out at Carrolls Cove in the last few days?

Chuck at pruden's point has a nice trail plowed to all the shacks. There is a lot more out here this year than the past. Props to you big guy!

Drove down to carrolls on my way back from prudens. There were trucks out there. Not much of a trail but honestly the snow spread out pretty good and it should be easy driving.

Tobin is easy driving. 6 of us went out today and probably had our best day out there for action. Lots of walleye, some perch, a few pike, couple, burbot, some sauger and a tullibee just to top it off haha. Mostly eaters and small for the eyes, but also 3 good ones that were 6.5, 8.3 and 9.9lbs caught by three of the others in the group, not me unfortunately. Very fun day with friends and my son who caught his biggest fish (a 6lb pike). Good times!!!

Glad you had a good day. It's been pretty slow in most places.
