lol dude, that's probably a couple weeks away yet. There wasn't ice at Regina beach yesterday let alone in the middle of the lake where the wind/waves are the worst.

I went out to buddies pond yesterday that is only 40'x60' @ 4-12' deep and it maybe had 1-2" of ice, got one little rainbow.

Fishing on 1" of ice...you must be looking for a Darwin Award if you actually walked out on it.

Just wondering how thick was the ice on you're trip??? I'd like to get out to the beach soon but still waiting for safe ice...

Thanks

Plenty safe for walking but keep spudding or drilling as you go! We found 6-7 inches everywhere we were but I know that could quickly change as some other places I've checked on the lake have had less than an inch of ice that you could not even stand on. The wind has really been screwing things up this year.

Walked out 75 yds near glen harbour/grand view area. . 3" at shore and got better as I went. 25 yds was 5". 50yds was 6-1/2" and the farthest was 8". Close by was a 4" thick spot also. Could see the lake locked up as far as you can see.

You must have been on the east side. Definitely not that much ice on the west side. The wind blew all the ice to that side of the lake. That's why she's thicker.  Just locked up on this side a few days ago

just got back from Alice beach. Didnt get the shack out, didnt think i would really, but wanted to check the ice. ventured about 60 yards out, 10 feet of water there was a good 5 inches of ice. very noisy ice today, the wind made it impossible to move much as it took too much effort to anchor the tent. there is a large ice heave right at the shore line, bottom of the boat launch. that will make getting onto the lake tricky. i will bring a big axe next weekend and see if i can make a dent in it. hope you guys did better then me...i wasnt skunked...but am not bragging either. saw what looked to be another tent out from the north end of wee too. he looked to be much further out then me. cant comment on the barn..to far for my fishing buddy to walk. next weekend maybe

I was at Regina Beach on Saturday for a couple hours and there was a ton of shacks and a few vehicles on the lake, not much action from the people I talked to about fishing though....

I'm going all weekend Friday to Sunday to try and find the big girls! :)
The ice angler is a different breed of fisherman. Undeterred by distance, daylight or degrees, these warriors go to extreme measures to chase down the fish attempting to wait out winter below the frozen surface. Through 10-inch holes positioned amidst miles of ice they engage the elusive walleye one-by-one, yeah it's crazy, and some may never understand it.

Fished near Little Arm today. Pretty slow overall. A bunch of small jacks, one eater walleye and several tullibee following the hook up and down, up and down!!!!
Two other groups out, looked like similar results or poorer as they left earlier.
Road out there is pretty rough with deep ruts.
Ice was 11-12"

Whale,

Etters beach is the closest boat launch to saskatoon.  The regional park at the north end is also approximately the same distance if you take the shortest route.  i have never went there and cannot comment on the quality of the road from highway 2, but i can tell you that highway 15 from kenaston to highway 2 can be pretty crappy.  They were still fixing it this last summer when i last went to LML.  We got into a delay due to waiting to get past construction and also had to drive really slow on some sections of the road.  If i was going back there i would probably take highway 16 and highway 2 rather than 11 and 15.  Unless someone can comment on the quality of highway 15 more recently?

If you don't want to drive the shortest distance possible then you have a lot of choices.  What you can do is just view the shorelines of the lake with satellite image in google maps and look at all the communities along the lake shore.  Each one of those should have an access point at the boat launch.

I have personally only ice fished the lake down at the very south end at kanata valley and it was extremely slow fishing.   I hope to get out to try the etters area this winter as we did really well there on our trip in the late spring.

Your asking for a cold swim if your driving on with a truck. There are places in the north and south ends that you could but they have way more ice than the middle area  of the lake.
