bird lake Hillsdale Co.

My in - laws just bough a place on this lake and I plan to do a lot of fishing on it. Anyone have some info on the lake. How's the pan fishing. I see it is a trout lake.

Never fished it but heard from guys that have said its deep, big gills!

I live on there too!.  Decent fishery. I can not tell you enough to BE CAREFUL on the ice there......  The lake has several springs and doesn't get safe very easy.  ALWAYS use a spud.

I haven't tried fishing for perch on the ice yet. But I have caught decent one off the dock.

There are some very nice perch in that lake, they just don't come in large quantities. I would definitely be worth your time.

Grew up on bird lake for my first 18 years I can tell you there are some really nice pike,bass and blue gills along with perch and it has fast drop offs and very deep holes but is also one of the last lakes in the county to freeze with all the springs in

Bird Lake has a pretty good rainbow population; I've never fished it but a friend goes there all summer and fishes for trout at night. Don't know if there's a hardwater bite tho.

Sounds good and yes deep spots some big gills and perch but not huge numbers on the perch I live about half hour away so I will let you know when it's ready and an old timer who had lived there since the early 1940's helped me out I even know where there are 2 old ford model t cars that went thru the ice many years ago and even an old air plane prop that we found while diving a little history about the lake is it was called turd lake for the longest time do to the sewer from many of the house ran into the until about 1985-6 they came thru and put in a complete sewer system in

Go to the boat launch and take a right out towards the little peninsula and there is a spot where it drops off pretty deep and u can get on the pan fish there

I haven't been up in a couple weeks but with this hard freeze I would assume the lake is finally frozen over.
