Devils Lake 2014-2015
« on: Oct 31, 2014, 08:50 AM »
Hello,

I have never fished Devils Lake before, recently moved closer to the lake so the drive is not as far.  Just wondering if certain parts of the lake are always better, or is it a search and destroy on the entire body?  Also, I have a new permie that I will be bringing up, in recent years can i guy bring out a big permie by Christmas?  Thanks for any info.

Welcome to the boards Eyepod.  There are 2 or 3 guys on here from around that area. Hopefully they will speak up and help you out.  People around Devils Lake are a little lipped on other websites. It would help us out to help you out if you would update your location.

Guys were driving on DL in mid Dec last year.  I saw a few perms out just after Christmas.  Check out this thread from last year.  http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=13875.20

If we're lucky we'll be driving on 18" of clear ice by Christmas this year.

I have been looking at the extended forcast, would it be crazy to think about fishing there over Thanksgiving weekend?

Not with a permy, just with portables and 4-wheelers?

With the cold coming through now the smaller lakes will probably be seeing some ice this weekend but will be sketchy. The big lake has a at least a week or so before it see's any ice on it and that is if the wind stays away. Christmas time usually marks the permy's and smaller cars and then thanksgiving is walking out and portables.

Thanks for the info, trying to plan a father son trip up there and want to take the permies to have as headquarters.  Looks like we will be planning a trip for after the new year.

Here is a webcam link to keep track of the water/ice condition at the Lakewood boat ramp.
