Pam non-stick cooking spray. I have buddies that use WD40.

I use Stanley's Ice Off for my fly rods and have used it for my ice rods, but it depends on how cold it is

Pam works great.

I like to use a little Smelly Jelly. Just dip the rod tip in it. It doesn't freeze that easily and it coats the line with scent too!

;D I know there will be alot of comments on this but I gotta say, usually when Im jigging of its cold enough for the rod guides to freeze up its usually the one on the very tip of your rod. Just pop it in your mouth for a few seconds and the ice will melt right off. Works fast no chemicals required.

If you squeeze the eye between your fingers it will also melt and you won't end up with Giardia or Crypto from putting questionable lake water in your mouth... You knew the comments were coming lol.

My uncle is still trying to get over Giardia, after 2+ weeks.  (not ice fishing, but from a freshwater lake)

I don't want any part of that!  Not using the mount thing again.

Fun fact that may or may not be true:  According to our guide when we went dogsledding in the BWCA last February, you can't get giardia in the winter because its sinks to the bottom of the lake due to some sort of science.  At least this is what he tolds us so that we would drink the water directly from lakes.

Non of us got sick on that trip so it must be true right.....  :-\

I don't drink water, fish screw in it!

For some reason I have never had troubles with my jig pole icing up. It's possible that I just hang in the shanty when it's that cold. I'll bucket sit if it's cold out and sunny, but not if it's cold enough to freeze my fishing line to the eyes. It would have to many, many times below freezing to have this be a problem.

I'm pretty sure Giardia comes from rotting animals or raccoon feces I'm not too worried about it. I don't drink it it works for me. Funny thread this has become.

Both the Giardia and Crypto parasites comes from the intestinal tract of any warm blooded creature... beavers, ducks, geese are in every waterbody in NH I've seen. You don't have to drink the water to contract it, infected water just has to come in contact with your mouth or nose.
I was never worried about it either.... till I spent a miserable 6 days strait in the bathroom dealing with it. Got it from one of the cleanest spring fed lakes (Dublin lake) in the state.
