ATV UTV on the ice?
« on: Oct 25, 2014, 10:44 AM »
I'm new to Mass, just purchased an ice boat (Polaris Ranger 570). What are the general rules around here for using ATV's and UTV's on the ice?

Plus, as I said I'm new, I live in Berlin Ma. Always looking for a fishing partner.

First and foremost, Welcome to Mass!

If you ever wind up in the Berkshires, I'd be happy to show you some of my favorite fishing spots.

As for regulations with your atv. As long as it's registered with the environmental Police you are good to go. Not sure what the regs are in SD, but you absolutely need to wear a helmet at all times when riding, or even sitting on it on the ice. The EPO are absolutely going to write you a ticket if you don't.

Thank you! In SD it's pretty relaxed. I'm looking for a trip in the region that produces fish, even if it's a bit of work to get to it.

If I get out your way I will look you up.

Welcome to Mass.  Hit me up when the ice is here and I can show you a few spots to fish for some LMB.  Tight lines.
It is MY responsibility to make sure my children can enjoy fishing years from now. Make sure your kids can fish.  If you see something ILLEGAL Contact the Massachusetts Environmental Police Radio Room at 1-800-632-8075 at any hour of the day. They might show up if there is enough staff working.

Make sure you know the rules of each pond/lake you go to as well.  I know of a couple lakes that don't allow anything with a motor in the water or on the ice, including ATV/UTVs and gas powered augers.  I'm not really sure how it is enforced but I have seen the signs.
