where's the ice?
« on: Oct 23, 2014, 03:24 PM »
Come on something's gotta  be frozen by now right? :)

Shoot with the fall being so warm the lower clearwater just now got below 51 took about two weeks longer than last year :( i got hope that it starts to cool down faster pretty soon or i might have to duck hunt through January!  (That be a shame ;) )

Yeah, you'd think something around Stanley would be locked up by now.

I say we just dump some coolers full of ice in all the lakes and speed it up!

I was at a high mountain lake (8200 feet) near the Stanley basin (often the coldest place in Idaho) and there was no ice anywhere on the lake.  Last year I was ice fishing that lake in mid November.

Early in the afternoon, I snagged my gear in water about crotch deep, so I stripped down (completely buff naked) and walked out into the lake to retrieve my gear.  I'm here to tell you we have a while before ice up.  But it is coming.

The ice in the normal areas will come but I was told the Almanac predicts a warmer winter? I would say it's on trend as we have yet to have a frost in Oct. (maybe this morning)

it's been getting frosty in the mountains down by Mcammon. even saw a couple of puddles frozen over one morning.

maybe this season we'll have ice clear through march, last year's season was cut way too short for me.  :-\

Snotel for Island Park says it was 22 degrees at 3:00 AM this morning.  You guys are getting close to forming some ice over there.

Sorry, I didn't take any pictures.  You'll just have to take my word for it (or not, I don't care either way).  The biggest was not that big, only around 14-15 inches, but the reds on some of their stomachs were incredible.  I'll see if my brother took any pictures, but I doubt it.  He threatened to take a picture of my bare @$$ out in the lake but then decided he was too busy fishing.  The world is better off that way I'm sure.

No offense taken and for the record, I didn't think you personally had any doubts.  I just meant that as a general reference to those who don't believe without pictures.  I've found a few.....

If you like beautiful cuts, then how do you feel about beautiful rainbows?  Check out this beauty from last year.  I didn't catch it.  I am the one pulling it out of the hole in the ice.  Talk about beautiful......... Great memories.  Can't wait till hard water!

Beautiful fish  :woot: :woot: No ice to speak of here but the lows have been in the lower 30's so the high uintahs should be getting close.
