Stand to elevate flasher
« on: Oct 23, 2014, 11:47 AM »
My Marcum flasher screen  is a bit difficult to see with these aging eyes when sitting on the ice. Have any of you weirdo's made a stand to raise them up 18" or so? I used a small spotting scope tripod with a piece of plywood on top last season, but it's a bit unstable. Legs don't open wide enough. Seeking suggestions........

we made a welded a table that rides on top of our sled and we put in our shanty when we set up.
Keep your stick on the ice we are all in this together.

Use a milk crate like most of us do.

I carry my Vex in a 5 gal. bucket.  I turn the bucket upside down on the ice and use that as the stand when I'm fishing.

I like my flasher down lower but I know quite a few people who use small coolers or 3 gal buckets with lids - both double as dry storage...

Then what do you sit on?  When hole hopping, i too keep everything in the bucket, but flip it over to sit on it...and put the vex on the ice

I gotta figure something out for this too. Last year I kept getting upper back pains from looking down too much. Just getting older I guess.

I took a 3/8" piece of flat stock.  Cut into near equal pieces, length is dependent on how tall you want the stand. Cut one just a little shorter than the other so it stacks inside the other piece after you make the bends.  I then bent them to have legs of nearly equal lengths with the flat across the top just a little wider than the base of my flasher.  Drill a hole in the center of the top flat of both pieces and use a small bolt to hold them together, but allow them to pivot.  Drill holes in the corners(at the bend) that you can attach mini bungees to to fix the flasher to the stand.

Just picture making a stand out of to giant staples to visualize what I am talking about.

Works great for me

This is the same thing I do, my neck has started to get bad and the constant looking down towards the ice seems to kill it. I have my vex in a clam carrying back and I just set it right on top of the bucket and it seems to work really well.

It's a flasher, can't mount this way. Thanks guys, lots of good ideas here. I like the folding metal bracket concept. I was toying with that one when I asked this. Lots of experience on this site. I love it!

I am not sure if you are familiar with an item called a pocket chair, but the pocket chair is the perfect solution for your need, you can find them cheap on eBay and at local hardware stores.

Interesting concept Sgtshi. Needs a tall bucket but I think I can find one. Nice batch of sunnies to go with it.

Use a milk crate like most of us do.

X2 , My flasher and camera fit in it for transport. When in the tent I use it mostly for the cam but if need be I can use it for the flasher. I don't use the flasher in the tent so I generaly just sit it on the ice. That way I can run and gun to the next hole. We generaly drill say 4 holes person.  one person = 4 holes, If two of us are out, 8 holes will be drilled. Three people=12 holes.
Gonna get me a 16" Perch this year.
