« on: Oct 20, 2014, 02:28 PM »
I ordered some slender spoons, bionic ice line, #3 chubby darter, and a jaw jacker. Might invest in the new flat line rod as-well for my straight line reels. Whats new this year for you ???

Yes lake st Clair is where I do about 80% of my winter but I pretty much only fish the Canadian side

Just out of curiosity, why do you mainly fish Canadian side?  Also my new toys are a new jiffy SD60, and an old American clipper sled transformed into a utility sled/seat.  I am trying to come up with a way to put a canvas/fabric wind guard on it.

use to fish out of fair haven
did real well if you get out past the dinks [and we are not talking little perch]
average 12-14'' perch if ya find the right spot
portables are a must because permanent shanty's get used as out houses [found out the hard way]
nothing like finding a big frozen pile on top of your spearing hole  >:(

as for updating equipment, everything is getting re worked to shed weight due to the deep snow up here
broke a ski on the new smitty sled last year, might have been a bad spot in the wood

Mitchman, I found some used downhill skis for my build last year at Goodwill for about $10.  Worth looking into if there is one in your area.

You don't show a location but if you are in the Utica, Sterling Hts. etc. area, check the Salvation Army on M-59 (Hall Rd).  They have some for about 20 bucks last time I looked.  Also Play it Again Sam has them.....heres a tip.....tell the salesman what you are going to do with them and you may wind up with a set for free.  Ask me how I know. @) ;D

Downhill skis are quite a bit wider than cross country skis.  The extra width will give better loft in the snow.  Cross country skis probably won't last any longer than downhill.  Skis are meant for snow and ice, were you pulling them on pavement?  Don't think they should have worn through in just one season.

Probably went a little overboard with the new additions.  Just got serious about ice fishing again last year so I had some catching up to do.  I've added the following:

-Various jigs(bro bug, mud bug, mooska, uv fireball, checkai)
-Few new spoons(silver/holographic Swedish pimple, silver hali)
-New rod bag(cheap 4 combo bag)
-Sled(cabelas knockoff jet sled)-I think this might be better than the real one.  Cabela's has molded bucket holders in the floor
-Plastics(more colors of gulp fry, maki jamei, atom wedges, gander mtn brand wiggler looking things)
-Hand auger(finbore 3, imported from Ontario)
-Wigwam Canada socks (gift from the fiance)
-Fl8se genz pack (found on the ebay back in August.  New in box, $265 shipped free)
-red vex soft cover for the flasher (another gift)
-one more cheap spinning combo

I knew I had a problem but seeing this all typed out is a little troubling, lol.

Keep the front two between the snowbanks.
