Refuge Valentine
« on: Oct 05, 2014, 07:25 PM »
Haven't worked in the area for last couple years and have not read much on here.  How are the numbers?  I know couple years ago the O2 levels were bad.

Two years ago was way low.  I was up in the area a few weeks ago, and everything seemed back to normal levels.

Oxygen levels????  No major die-offs except where water levels were extremely low due to drought conditions (i.e. Watts Lake, and even there fish survived).

Worked for 'em, but caught plenty of fish on the Valentine Refuge last winter.

I am expecting better water conditions and am optimistic for a good bite this winter.

0 is oxygen, and 02 is oxygen gas....both of which are produced in an aquatic environment.

Good thing you did!! I stand corrected! O2 (gas) doesn't dissolve in water very well!! Hopefully he understood what I meant!!

Guessing mid 40's for a water temp.  Mullen had rain, ice balls and enough snow to cover all the grasses areas this afternoon but back close to 60's tomorrow.

The Valentine forecast predicts highs below freezing and most lows in the single digit range through Tuesday.  After that we return to more seasonable temps, but even then highs only hit mid thirties.  It's possible some sandhills lakes may have ice cover.  Thickness will be determined by winds, sunshine etc. but there could be some opportunities.....?

Merritt's depth and a relatively warm October & early November will prevent safe ice from forming for a while yet.
