After looking back at my pics from last year, it was the day after Thanksgiving, Nov 22. Even though I'm not a big trout fan, the fishing was nonstop all day long. Great place to knock the rust off.

The forecast low here in Aberdeen, SD on Thursday night is -15. Holes will be drilled through ice somewhere this weekend! Hopefully the fish remember to cooperate!

Just testing the waters. Anyone from the pocatello or idaho falls area maybe want to plan a trip up to fish henrys on the first weekend of December? Split the gas money ect. I have never fished this lake but would like to try it this year. Any takers?

Will there be some fishable ice this weekend or early next week? It's looking like there might be.  :)

I'm not wanting to hijack the thread, but it seems that ice won't form until the lake turns over completely.  How long does that typically take?  Anyone know?

Hooknhunter,
From what i have read turn over happens quickly, on large reserviors 2-3 days on small lakes overnight. During turnover the bite is off until the fish get used to the changes...It has probably already happened given curt69 post "Fished 4 hours yesterday . 2.5 hours trolling 1.5 bait fishing . Caught 2 small fish . The fish finder was going crazy , but I couldn't get them to bite"

Did ya look at the picture from yesterday?  The lake HAS turned over, and ice is forming.  No need to wait for it to turn.

The question wasn't about Henry's lake specifically, but just lakes in general.  Obviously, Henry's has turned or it wouldn't be forming ice now.  I guess I wasn't clear in my original question.

The one photo is a web cam at last chance, its the Henry's fork. the other is the dot cam at the entrance to Henry's lake at the state ramp. Im sure ice is there we have several ponds here in burley that capped last night. If the wind will quit ice should build fast, I would bet someone will be on it this weekend if not sooner

There is no timetable or chart.  It depends on many factors.  Depth, clarity, wind, whether there is water flowing in or out, etc... etc.

This is a really good question, last year at Ririe the reservoir never did really freeze.  It did for a short few days then it warmed up again and the wind blew it all off.  Ririe is a really deep reservoir though, but we had some darn cold early temps and it seemed like Ririe just never would turn all the way over.  We'll see how it goes this year.

Good news indeed  ;D I'm hoping there are some good reports this weekend on thickness of that wavy ice I hear of. That would have been interesting to see it freeze as the wind was blowing and the temps were way below 0

I'm going to drive up tomorrow and see how it is (along with half of eastern Idaho I presume) and will post what I find.
