Sleds
« on: Sep 29, 2014, 02:12 PM »
looking to get a sled for fishing this year.  I don't have a lot of money so ill be looking in the 500 dollar range but im wondering what years and models should I stay away from.  I have some ability to fix things but im not a total motor head so something that works and will run is more important than it being fast.  any recommendations would be appreciated.

There are a lot of choices of beater ice sleds, but I have to say I have been incredibly happy with the old Yamaha Enticers. They are so simple to work on and well designed. I got this long track machine for less than your budget and it's in great shape.
Quote- fishslap: I use a variety:  whistlin' bungholes, spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistlin' kitty chaser

If it's just for fishing you don't need any thing huge.  I had an old 340 that worked great for years!  I'd stay away from the triples, I would imagine that they would just carbon up in between traps.  Tons of old cats and polaris on Craig's list

I don't know if this is still for sale, but sounds like it would be perfect for what you're looking for:

I have a 96 Skidoo Formula S that I'm thinking about selling.  It's an air cooled twin in perfect shape - no scratches, cracks or rips in anything.  I'd be looking for around $1000 given it's condition but you'd have a good sled with absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Smaller sleds or 2-up hold their value better than bigger sleds. Your best price may be on an older bigger cc sled but it may not be what you want. Might be tough finding something long track.
