« on: Sep 23, 2014, 11:38 AM »
I bought a new (to me) strikemaster auger late this spring and the blade although new is rusty...not bad but rusty. should i have the rust removed , or do you think the ice will remove it for me? auger was used two days then stored for many years. thanks !

As long as it is sharp, it should be fine.

Come on ice!

Give it a shot of WD40 to stop anymore rust from forming, rust never sleeps, as long as its sharp I wouldn't touch it but if its been rusty for a long time I would sharpen them because the rust may feel sharp but once it starts cutting its going to wear the edge off, when I had my model 30 jiffy I would use my bench mounted belt sander to sharpen the blade, just find out what the angle is and set the table to that angle then screw the blade to a board and sharpen it that way works good to

I wouldn't do that just hit it with Pb blaster and a cloth the wool will ruin the edge on it.
freeze a bucket of water and try it.
