We have been trapping bait for a few weeks now for open water fishin, but now that you brought if up I think im going to start up a bait tank early this year and catch my own bait I used to buy it at the local bait shop and have them all winter I hate to not support my local shop but when I think about what I spent last year in bait I think it would be wise

I'm hoping to get some traps in the water this week. I'm pumped about it.

Depending on how big they are would determine how many but you need to have good aeration if your going to cram them in there and cold water and a piece of screen to keep them from jumping out I would try to find an old cooler to keep them In or just box your tote in with some 2" Styrofoam insulation to help keep them cool

Awesome, thanks for the help guys. It's much appreciated.

I'll be keeping them in my basement with a 14" airstone in the water.

you need a filtration system with charcoal. the charcoal helps to neutralize the ammonia from their waste. the more you have in there, the more frequently you need to change out the water.

I've used them open water before for bass and did very well with them. I'd give them a shot.

Thanks Icecold. I've been getting them pretty easily. As much as I want shiners, sunnies are easy to get. I got about two dozen in a 1/2 hour last night.

Do you guys feed them in the tank? Curious as to what you use for food and how often do you you feed them depending on the amount of fish of course.

Here in R.I. We can only keep 99 without a special permit. I crumble two or three flakes of oatmeal for feed every other week, any more than that and you end up with a messy tank.
