Well I don't know about you but my thoughts have already shifted to the hard water season even thought there are many fall sessions to be had between now and then.

I am only doing myself harm by starting my research and reading about the upcoming season on ice but after the snow that we got this month I just can't seem to shake it.

So, what will you be targeting after you punch through the ice for the first time this Winter?

Don't worry, I am not fishing for spots, just species to see if anyone else is daydreaming like myself.

Depends on the fist safe ice.   Usually it's one that has some decent perch.

If my buddy's gonna be with me on my first trip, most likely Bass but if I'm going by myself, probably Crappie.

True, safety 1st! Maybe I should alter the question.

Ice conditions aside, what is the first species you want to pull thought the ice?

For me, I want to got onto some decent sized lakers this time around.

Brookies from Peppers Lake in the beautiful Northern Rockies. Under normal circumstances, by mid November the ice is good to walk on.... albeit close to shore. Good fishing everyone!

Probably Perch, but maybe Rainbows or Walleyes.  I finally have some Walleye tags to fill this year.  I can't even remember what Walleye tastes like, it's been so long.

You guys are starting the rant early this year... good for you!!  ;D
Welcome back everyone and I'm looking forwards to another great season on the ice.

I saved my Pigeon 2 over 50 cm walleye tags for early December this year.  I'm sure hoping that pays off first.  Fresh large walleye caught at first ice....can't wait!

After that, opening weekend at Gull for crazy whites.

SloughShark, that idea of your's just might have to beat out the wallies as the first...it has me thinking.

Good fishin'!

Pike will probably be the first target species this season for me. :)

I've got some large premium baits to target the elusive Alberta Ice Wombat!!

Looking forward to hitting the ice with you in about a month bud. Early ice Walters are the way to go, throw in a few Jumba Poich and you may have to take a few home for supper.

Good luck to everyone this year; as always please be safe on the ice in the early season.

If I don't make it out west for some early season Brook trout in November, then it'll be pike in early December. Guess I'll just have to see what the weather throws at us in the coming weeks! ;)
A bad day of fishing beats anything else I'd be doing today.....
