I found a set of ski's in the garage rafters of the house I just bought, score, and plan on building myself one when the weather starts to cool a bit. Been searching on here a bunch to try and gather as many ideas as I can.

2 pointers - make sure that you countersink  the screws and minimum 16 feet of tow rope

Remember to keep the weight toward the rear as best up can ...so as to lift the front end as you pull

Does that mean 16 ft total, so it'll be 8 ft when attached to both skis and pulling from the center or 32 ft total, so it'll be 16 ft when attached? ??? Just built one. I've got to slap a couple corner braces on the risers for reinforcement and a coat of paint.

16 foot total ...and keep the weight toward the rear ...some guys use harnesses to pull ...I had success by "pushing" the rope in front of me ..they are the ticket for moderately deep snow

Thanks, diehard. I get around by "shoe leather express". I can't wait to see how much difference a smitty makes.

Pics if possible!

My Kenai's on a Smitty now, but I have to take it off/on if I want to flip it.  I'm interested in ski's that drop!

this is where i found my inspiration...  mine didn't turn out quite as professional looking, but it works great!

scroll down to ljc2tall's post.
Actually, if there's no snow, you can have 1 foot on the ski and the other foot pushing and "ride" the sled...  it get's a lot of funny looks, but hey, it works for me!

That's the one I plan on copying also, it should beat the heck out of having to put the shanty on the sled every time you move. That or leave the sled a few moves behind and going to retrieve it later.

Nice!

Only issue I can think of with that design is that I couldn't fit the works into my car.  As it is now, the Kenai takes up the whole back end with the SmittySled inside the tub for transport.

I'll need to work on a vertical adaptation of that.  Thanks for the followup!
