Sorry to hear that, Mitch -- did you move back to MN?  I was looking forward to chasing some giants on the ice with you this winter.  :)
I'm hoping to hit an early ice spot on Sunday, Oct. 26th, so perhaps I'll beat your outing by one day.  :)

Temps in the 20s in the mountains later this week with snow forecasted.  As soon as first rifle is over I'll have an auger and a fly rod in the pack and we'll see which one sees action.

Looks like your set up pretty good COboundoutdoorguy. Best advice I can give ya is to just get out and fish. Check out maps of lakes if they are available and don't pass up little bodies of water. I've found some of the best fishing on small lakes. Don't get disappointed if you get skunked... it is called fishing and not catching after all! A day spent fishing is always better than a day at work.

Yeah, Nate I moved back to MN on Memorial Weekend to be close to family, niece and nephews, friends, cabins, and a promotion at work. I already miss CO a ton but the good news is that I fished a ton this summer and expect to see the ice a lot this winter. I'm trying something new this season, I registered for an ice fishing league which targets Crappies and Sunfish so I'm looking forward to that starting in Dec.

Yea, too bad you won't be around to make the first outing. It sounds like the fishing were you are should be prime for warm water species though.

Just about ready here. The Grand Mesa is over 10k feet and some of the lakes close to the highway freeze first.

Good stuff.  I was at 11,300 yesterday and not even frost on the ground.  I hope to be on the ice in another spot on the 19th.  It might be a week early based on the past few years but I'll give it a try.

I will need some help in finding out where to go hit the ice this year since I just moved here from Indiana about 3 months ago and want to target some Walleye for one thing and whatever else also

The walleye season, since it is down east of the mountains, is pretty short.  Several on here publish pics of the 'Eye catches during the winter.  Apparently Cherry Creek is a popular spot, just east of south Denver.  Up near you is Horsetooth, just west of Ft. Collins, where I hear walleye are planted.  Never tried either place myself.

Once the ice is on down here, maybe PM one of the walleye guys and see what they say for you.  Maybe you can get an invite to come along.

Fishslap,  were you able to walk on any water this past weekend?  Do you think your first place last year will be the first to ice this year? - thinking about walking up there next week to check if you think there is any chance.

No, I had to fly to CA Sat.  When I flew over almost all lakes were open, a couple had partial ice.  I'll be trying to get on a few different spots when I return this weekend.
