Gotta Vent

I mowed my lawn tonight because there are some serious storms heading this way. When I got done I went inside to take a whizz (beers involved) and while I was standing there holding my unit I felt a stinging just above my right elbow. I looked and it was a FULLY engorged female mosquito. In my HOUSE. In my BATHROOM where my KIDS come to PLAY WITH THEIR TOYS! (I don't have any kids, that's a Godfather reference, and I whacked her) You know, at least during ice season the only thing trying to kill you is the temperature, and we know how to deal with that. It doesn't sneak up on you in the bathroom and give you the West Nile virus.  :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:

Egad!! The audacity of that creature!! I'm glad that all are safe; and that she didn't attack yer "unit".

So many reasons that ice season can't come fast enough. Bugs are about 2nd or 3rd on my list right now but as the summer goes a long they will be on the top of it like usual haha

The wasps and hornets haven't been too bad this year around here. Usually the garage is full of them but I got on them pretty early and it seems to have taken care of them. Hopefully the ice comes early this year to take care of the bugs lol

I mentioned in the countdown thread that I caught a 13.2 lb pike Friday. I decided to try my hand at drying and tanning the hide for a hat-band, cuz my Dad suggested it. I got the hides fleshed and salted and stapled to some plywood and I set them out in the sun this afternoon. You'da thought that would have brought the yellow-jackets in big numbers, but I only had 2 come and take a chunk of meat that I didn't get off of it. I was very surprised by that.  :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:

I thought I would add to this thread that the wasps are out in force now. Can't even open the back door. Good thing they're slow. Also, my pike skin is looking pretty good. The wasps helped take off some of the meat that I missed. :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:

Me too. So far all I've seen of it is the back, or the inside layer. I hope it still has some of the pattern left when I unstaple it from the board.  :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:

I have to ask, do you remove the scales too?
Won't they flare out when you wrap it as a hat band?

The scales lay flat right now and it looks great. Its on the Tanning Fish Skins thread on the main page.

I got on this thread to say NO MORE BUGS!!! Freezing temps all week, around zero at night for a few days. :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:
