Already dreaming of November.
« on: Aug 07, 2014, 11:24 AM »
Well. We are into August now. Only three months until late November will be upon us.

I hope it's a cold one this year.

Bring on the ice already.

Good fishin'!

I enjoy the fact I haven't checked this since the spring and the fact this cold and fall like day brought me here one day after you. I'm ready for some ice!

Add me to that list too. Been planning a fishing trip in Jan. and it's giving me the itch something fierce...

Lol. I just got a natural itch Swampy.

It's just been a miserable year and a half trying to find work after 15 years of "army dumb". And I just want the ice....and peace I just don't find at most lakes in the summer.

Soon...just not soon enough for this guy. Lol.

Good fishin all!

I hear you guys.  I've been spending my spring and summer preparing for the winter!  I've been going hard on my enclosed trailer/ice shack conversion so I can get out many, many weekends this year!

I think you're being optimistic about November tho!

Hey all - long time lurker (about 4 years now) and first time poster.

I just cannot wait for the hard water. I've been on a kick lately of building some kind of mobile shanty and its driving my wife absolutely crazy.

Welcome to the site man!

Well... Today was a good day. Started the auger up. First pull. Hope that's a sign of good things to come! Not to mention there was frost in the garden this morning and it's snowing down south and were forecasting some low temperatures!!! Does anyone think I'm being slightly optimistic?!   :cookoo:

I'm in the same boat, although I wish I was in the tent.

I feel guilty to wish away the limited warmer weather that we have but I can't help to quietly look forward to dusting off the tent, hitting the stores to update my rod quiver and heading out on the hard water.

Tight lines to you all when the time comes. Until then, I will be checking in on here to read up on some topics and adding to the itch anxiously look down the hole as I keep my ears open for the tip up.  "Take Him!!!!"

Glad I am not alone with this problem.

Easy Swampy.... still summer lol. I hear what you are putting down though.... 1 month goes by pretty fast. My best fishing buddy has gone off to college so may be doing some solos this season.

Good luck and safe travels this winter!

I think we are coming up to Calgary for Thanksgiving at the end of Nov.   Any chance for ice by then?

Hey there Sawtooth. I was out for my first session last season on November 25th. About 5 inches of ice that was about an hour out of the city.

Hey Sawtooth! You should be fishing safely by then, but only walk on access. Seen too many people risking sinking their vehicles on 5 inches of ice. Personally ive been ice fishing in October and some people think I'm nuts, but as long as you're smart and safe, that's all there is too it! Have fun out there!

chop1, chickakoo always freezes up early in that small bay.  Some other lakes in the area that hold pike freeze over pretty quick too.  Big Lake freezes over within a week of Chickakoo usually, and then the bigger lakes.  when chickakoo starts to freeze, take a drive around to some of the lakes there that you think hold fish, but have always wondered... if they have ice, you might be surprised what you might find...   ;)

Last year i was on Chickakoo on October 26th, and the year before that, October 29th.  Keep in mind that Muir Lake closes to fishing on October 31st, but if there is ice on there before then, you can catch some real hogs in shallow.

Saw my first ice on Sunday by Drayton Valley and boy did my heart begin to race! I love all forms of fishing and I participate in as many different types as possible, but ice fishing, as we on this board appreciate is...magical. May we be blessed with thick black ice and low snow this season!
Hell, if I'd jumped on all the dames I'm supposed to have jumped on, I'd have had no time to go fishing.

Three sleds flipped and cleaned.

Three Auger run up and purring. I can't wait to see how my grandfathers old Tanka works out. I'll miss fishing with him.

Propane drip coffee maker good to go.

Rods checked. And re checked.

Tip ups are good.

Soon,  soon we will all be out there.

I can't wait!!!

Good fishin'!
