Perfect for me, I live in the Chicago area! Colder temps and barely any snow, will make this fisherman here a happy one for the season!!!  ;D

I've posted this in the past ..."give me 3 inches of snow atop 10 inches of good ice and I am all set".  I got two back to back heavy  snow falls in mid February last year ...made it sloppy going for a week after ..lil warm up then a deep freeze and I was back in business ...but I need to know what "Average " means ...lil subjective ( is it the average of the last 5,10,15,20 etc ....years )

I made a temperature chart last year trending the cyclical high and low temps for the last 20 years in PA. I posted it.

Long range weather predictions are like trying to predict women's actions...the minute you make one, they go and disprove it.  ::)

I just found the Old Farmer's Almanac's 2014-2015 winter forecast for the Scranton area and it's looking good from my point of view.  Here it is and a link to it and the main page for the long range 2015 forecast where you can pick your specific area.

Annual Weather Summary: November 2014 to October 2015
Winter will be much colder than normal, with slightly below-normal precipitation and snowfall. The coldest periods will occur in early to mid-December, from late December into early January, and in mid- and late January. The snowiest periods will occur in mid-December and early February.

The Old Farmers Almanac has been quite actuate for my area more often than not ...if their prediction holds true for the up coming ice season I should be on hard water around Christmas ..same as last year but earlier than most years . Its nice to get out a lil early ...work out all the cobwebs and kinks on those first couple of outings ...I like that the snow fall amount will be below normal too . ;D

I've seen several predictions so far from several different reporting sites, the Almanac's differs from most of them in the snowfall amount in PA. The Almanac is saying below average temps and below average snowfall but all the others are saying above average snowfall and they are saying normal winter temps. They are saying that there will be a moderate to severe El-Nino which will cause the higher than average snowfall and moderate temp's. I'm kinda hoping the Almanac is right, theirs sounds just right for us.

46 DEG.At my house thismorning.Seems like fall instead of summer.I remember the DOG DAYS OF AUGUST,when we were younger.UPPER 80s and LOW 90s.Dont see that this year.
Could be a sign of early winter and an early iceseason.

Thinking…hoping…the ice will come early this year.  Our local lake last year at this time was around 82 degrees.  Was out last night and was around 70.  Heres to a long and good hard water season…in a few months ::)

I had frost at my house this past Monday and Tuesday morning I saw geese flying south, a very good sign in my book.
