Since I don't see a "Welcome Area" on here I am posting this topic here.
To the admins...feel free to move this where-ever you feel it fits best.
Hi all...I'm David.
The MAIN topic of my post has to do with contour maps of lakes. These can also be found by searching the 'Net for keywords like depth, bathymetric/bathymetry, survey, hydrologic and even a few more "search types".
I'm going to reference TooLucky406's topic in the Montana subforum...
http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=202841.0MANY states ae now providing access to metadata that can be used with either Google or other software. I don't know if the data is any better than commercially made maps, but at least you folks have a way to find/get more & possilbly better maps.
I ran into the New York data a couple of days ago....it's here...already in KML/KMZ format.
http://gis.ny.gov/gisdata/inventories/details.cfm?DSID=1132I will admit that I'm not an ice fisherman, but at the same time, we ALL have a use for good contour/depth maps.
I am an admin on this site. We're not 100% "live" on the 'Net yet, but if you also enjoy open water fishing then consider joining. We SHOULD be completely live in the next 60 days.
http://fishinpedia.com/fishin-forums/index.phpNot to "toot my own horn", but on the site I believe that I have built THE largest "library" of links to lake maps / contour maps / depth maps available anywhere on the Internet.
Best regards to you folks
David
