New Shanty build
« on: Jul 26, 2014, 06:05 PM »
Well I finally saved up enough pennies to get a lowering frame.  It is a 17' v-nose and the frame is 7' wide.  I plan to make it into a bunk house with 6 or 8 holes.  It's going to have 110v outlets, 12v lights, tv and a forced air furnace.

Looks good.  Can't wait to see the build.  How long have you been thinking and designing this?

I have been thinking about it for a year or so.  I had a buddy that had a extra Miltona frame so I bought it from him for a good price along with a door.  It's going to take a while to build as I have to save up so the wife doesn't get to upset.  I plan on using 2x3 for framing, wrapping it with fanfold, then sheeting it with diamond plate on the bottom 16" then pro-rib for siding.  Inside will be knotty pine and then trimmed out with old weathered barn wood cut down to 2".  Right now I need to strip the frame down clean it and paint.  Then for plywood and get the the underside spray foamed.

I little up date.  I tried to get all the crap off the frame and paint it.  i realized quickly that I couldn't get everywhere I need to with a grinder and a wire wheel.  So I'm getting it sand blasted and painted.  I didn't have it figured into the budget, but in the long run I think it will protect the frame from rusting and will make it last longer.  i hope to get it back in a few weeks

Sand blasting is money well spent since and is the right way to do the job.  Sure you're going to spend a little more now but that's far better than ending up with a frame that rusts out in a few years.  By the way, I like your truck, real sharp.

I finally got my trailer back from getting sand blasted and painted.  It only took them a month and a half.  I got the decking done this morning and plan to spray foam the underside this afternoon.  I had a little help with the decking.  I think she might be a carpenter when she grows up.  She is always there to help daddy with projects.

If can find some Astro rap, a radiant rap you will double your R factor and a lot of money on propane. I had this done on my house and it keeps it a lot warmer.

I'm going to use fan fold to sheet the outside and then also the house wrap that you talked about.  I have a couples screws in the doors and windows for the picture.

The radiant rap goes on after the house rap and before the out side. It reflexes the heat back into the house to keep it a lot warmer.

Yes I used 3" decking screws.  I figured they would last longer then just regular sheet rock screws.

Looks great so far! If your frame is 7' wide then what does that put your total width at?

For any one planning on screwing the frame work together or anything for that matter. Buy the screws with the TORX drive. Little to no slippage when driving. Fact is some times you have to wiggle the bit to get it out of the screw.

I'm guessing around 2000 to 2500. I hope around 1800 but 2000 is realistic.
