New skid house build
« on: Jul 22, 2014, 06:20 PM »
New to the site.  Started building a new skid house two weeks ago.  It's a 6 x 10 with 7 foot side walls I these first pictures are from the floor framing.  The outside are twin 2x6 that the inside one has notches the accommodate the 2x4 joists.  I installed 3 1/2 in stryofoam between and have 1/4 plywood holding it up.  How do you attach pictures

Great start, thanks for the look.

Corrugated metal siding and roofing work great, pretty lightweight as well.

Look forward to future updates

Tonight I will Pad and Cloth the benches, install the LED Lighting, Put Corner Trim on, Make Hole Covers.

Pretty much done most of this by myself. I have about 22 hours in this. I did have someone help me a couple of hours.  Also being made for the peg board are rod tip downs, cup holders, bait holders, and coat hangers.  I will post pics when I get them done.

What is the picture you have on the outside of your house? It looks like a crest or something?

As for the building another one, hmm.  First off I probably won't be done with this one till it's on the ice.  Second I would like to see how much this gets used this season.  Third I want to know how hard it's to get back off the ice. I talked to my fishing buddies and we might do a second for an adjacent lake.  But I guarantee that I will get more help on the next one.  Total man hours on this one is around twenty five and around four hundred dollars.

1/4 inch hardwood underlayment. I painted both sides of it.  This is a trial run.  If it starts to degrade I will have to replace it with something else next year.  My first goal was keep it as light as possible.

If it starts to delaminate you could use T-111, that's pretty light and designed for outdoor use.  I'm not sure how the 1/4 inch painted underlayment is going to hold up, I know if it's unpainted it goes bad pretty fast if it gets wet.

We'll hopefully two coats of paint will hold up a year.  Today I just helped out a buddy lay some commercial tile, he is going to carpet the shack for me.  Won't get much done this week, going to help out the family business and put up a garage so shack is on back burner, but I will get a favor or two on the deal.

The two coats of paint will definitely help out.  When you get done you're going to have a great shack, good luck with it.
