If its not too late to consider, you can have it bored out a bit to a different piston if you can find it. Could be much cheaper, and if you tune the carb right, you can get a tiny bit more power out of it.

The salsman at "Small Engine Warehouse" thought the GX25 would work but I dont think it comes close. Another member here has pointed out several issues.1 rotation.
The Tecumseh has a clutch drum of 2.5",the clutch is 2.37",the mounting pattern is 2.25"
The Honda GX25 360 is, bolt pattern is 2 9/32" square pattern. The clutch shoe O.D. is 2"

The Honda GX35 OD of the clutch drum = 3" The mounting pattern around the clutch shoe is 2 3/4" square.

Why did the salesman think this would work?

I have been following this thread and am sorry to read of your problems. I have limited knowledge of gas engines but depending on want you mean by a blown engine Thomasthepikehunter's suggestion may work . Also is it possible to have a cylinder sleeve installed (not sure this is the right term) once again you would need a new piston as your cylinder diameter would be smaller then the original. Have you tried posting on the Maine section of Craigslist or Uncle Henry's someone may have the same model engine and auger laying in storage. One last idea have you contacted Jiffy and asked what replacement motor they would recommend. or at least see if they still have spec.sheets/diagrams for your model White Lighting. I hope you find a low cost solution to your problem. Right now your bargain is looking like no bargain  but instead one possibly costly project.

I have thought about getting a new piston and rings and have the cylinder honed but it seems that there are no parts available at all. I know they are listed on some sites but when you call they will tell you they are not being made anymore and no parts available. From what I have learned so far it seems there are quite afew of these augers around with no motors and no replacments to fix them.

You can get custom pistons made to whatever size you want. Another option is to find a piston from another engine like a chainsaw, or even a different auger, as long is its slightly bigger than the one in it. It also has to be the same length. A machinist can bore your cylinder to that easily. I've done dirt bikes for $50, but those pistons are readily available. My favorite is wiseco pistons. They also make customs. Its all quite a bit of work, but that's what it takes if you wanted to make money on this. IMO its also a ton of fun to kind of patch a motor together and have it work better than new. Heck while your at it get a custom expanded exhaust pipe and really crank out some horse power.  ;D I'm just kidding on that last part, but I've always wanted to try it.

Thats kind of what I was thinking just a project that I would like to see threw. I have 2 10" augers that run great so this is just a extra. I have used Wiseco pistons in the past in outboards and they ran better then ever. If I could find a machine shop that would bore it and match me up with a piston I would consider it for sure.

A quick search turns up maine machine shop, in your part of the state. Lots of machine shops will do it. Cylinder boring is easy, and takes hardly any time. Finding the piston will be the tricky part as the piston length, wrist pin hole, compression height, basically everything has to be the same. The diameter is the only thing that can change without major work. If you have the time, and enjoy this kind of thing, take it apart and find the dimentions of your piston. Maybe a small engine mechanic can cross reference a piston? Its not like these motors are strung out to peak performance, I'd bet there are lots of pistons out there, you just have to find them.

not sure how far you want to take it, or if you wanted to ship it out, but I have a guy here in VT that I know can bore and sleeve it. Look Up Jerry's machine shop in ST Johnsbury VT. He did an outboard for my last summer that I was having the same problem finding parts for. Runs like a charm, and now my 8hp evinrude is pushing close to 15hp ;)

You can ship it to plenty of places, the trick is to find one for cheap. $50 is a decent price, but remember shipping. If you can find one near you for $50-60 you are set.

Scalloper I.m not familiar with Maine but if it is not to great a drive maybe give Dags bait shop in Auburn a phone call. This past season they posted photos of their shop one or two were of used augers they took in trade. It is a long shot but they might have the motor or similar model auger among their stock. I guess it comes down to how much your willing to spend to get your auger up and running.

Dags was the first call I made. He said if I find any of these engines he would like a call because he has none left and dont know where to get any. Great people at Dags. I am about 3hrs east of them.

Scalloper from what I have read here on Ice Shanty I agree and wish there was a bait shop like Dags in my area.

Ok so I received the honda 4 stroke awhile ago. But the hole in the engine that the clutch would go into is to small, just as I thought when I ordered it from "Small engine wharehouse" but the saleman said it will work fine. I will admit its close. Its been two weeks since I did all of the measuring so I dont have the numbers right here in frount of me but if I take the engine to a machinest they could bore out the engine "bell housing so to speak" so the clutch will fit. The throtel will need to be modified to fit the auger but in the end I would have a 8" auger with a new 4 stroke engine for $255 without the machining cost which is unknown at this time. I will get back to some of you at a later date with pictures and measurments if any of you are interested. Thanks for all of the assistance along the way. Doug

If Dags was not 3hrs drive from me I would go there and show Marcell what my plan is. He asked me to let him know if I came up with a engine that would work. This may or may not be a feasable option but I still think it may be as the cost of a new 4 stroke auger would be very much more then I will have wraped up in this one.
