we are over the hump, the days are staring to get shorter, even if its a few minutes... fall and winter are around the corner

I hate the summer and all the heat, humidity, and what seems to be every other day's rain. Don't forget Friday is the 4th of July, or as I like to refer to it as the half way point of summer. I can't wait for the snow, cold, and ice. I wish we had nine months of ice fishing and only three of the soft water. That would be perfect in my book.

Agreed ....last winter was tough ...the back to back heavy snow falls in February made for some rough going for a bit . I do recall a lot less winds then in past years ...very nice ....but we had some brutally cold days . I'll take a lil milder winter for sure ....but not to mild .

Well, when it's so cold the city water mains freeze and remain that way until May, pipes in your house freeze, your heat bills are sky high, your walls crack from shifting frost 6' deep, and your 20 year old mugo pines and other shrubs get killed, a bit of milder temps wouldn't be bad...

I had a "mild winter " compared to my fellow IS members in the upper portions of the U.S.....my coldest weather was short lived compared to others . My Ice out was around the same as years past ...others not so much . I would like a " Ye Ole Fashion Winner " for my region this year ....not the walloping that we had this past season. P.S. I'd like safe ice for Christmas too .

We still got August and September to get through, but the temps are on their way down. Last year was a strange one, with ice then snow and rain and ice on top. Made for some sloppy, dangerous conditions that I really didn't care for very much. This coming winter is looking to be not so great either. Early reports are saying moderate to severe El-Nino. Could be good news for the mid west but here in the NE, it could be a thin ice kinda year. Think cold thoughts.

HAHAHAHA I don't see myself as a glutton for punishment since I love the winter, cold, ice fishing, and snow more like a winter addict. I can't ever get enough of it. HAHA As for the snow shoveling and stacking firewood I'm kinda in the same boat. I have to shovel snow but use a snow blower and I use to use firewood but switched to coal. I have it down to a science I bring in at east 20 pails at once and then I only have to haul out ashes every day.

I don't mine snow at all I look for it for rifle season like we always had in past. But hey if there's a lot snow on the ground it may insulate ice but at least it means it's still cold enough outside to make ice or sustain it.

i agree with you guys the sooner the better we started going threw our stuff last week just to start replacing some stuff gets you ready to go hopefully we have good ice like last year may even go north a couple states for some early action

Last year I was thinking of going north for a little early ice but we got fishable ice at the same time and didn't need to. I'm hoping for an early vortex

A friend of mine fishes VERMONT all ice season.He kills the perch and eyes.he is laid off all winter,runs a golf course.Hes got it made.He said there are cheep decent rooms for rent.Close the the lakes he fishes.Im hopeing to go out with him forc a weekend of icefishin this year.
