I like the yellow tip on that gill.  :)
Or is that just a little yellow leaf stuck on the belly?

A buddy of mine and I hit the NASCAR truck race at Eldora Speedway in Ohio, his folks live an hr away so we stayed there....this is what I woke up to

We're planning an ice trip for Feb just for the monster gills in it.

I'd love to go to that Truck race at Eldora.  I'm too close to have any real excuse to not go...  Also, I need to catch the World of Outlaws Kings Royal there.
That's some tasty iced tea.

I fish a spot that is just flat out loaded with monster sized gills in the summer. The fishfinder is black from so many fish.

It is barren in the winter .... we have had big parties with 30 people and the whole lake is covered and the vast majority of us don't even mark fish.
Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange,
Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain.

ISINT that SOMETHING SHIP OF FOOLS?
We have a stripping pond by us.MAYBE 10 acers.Loaded with GILLS,CALICO and bass.Nice gills to say the least. All spring ,summer and, fall you can catch them. Then just as you said [[[ICE ON]]] Not a fish to be had,not a line on the VEXILAR anywhere on the lake.WHATS UP WITH THAT.
The year i got access to this place i couldnt wait till ice on,I even lost sleep thinking about getting on it.Couldent wait to drop the transducer down the hole and,THEN :) >:( :( :o ??? :'(.I couldnt belive it not a fish ,not a bite, not even a wind flagg.I hit it that first year every chance i could get out and ,NOTHING.That was 8 years ago.I still give it a shot once a year on the ice with the same results NOTHING.We still do very well on open water. If someone can tell us whats up,let us know THANKS. :)

It sure is something else  ...  ironically my friend that lived on the lake moved down to the everglades so there isn't easy access anymore so i don't even bother.

By the way ....  i'm headed down to the everglades for some backcountry tarpon and snook tomorrow  ;D  ....  i'm sure i will be ready for ice fishing after 5 minutes in the sweltering heat!
