Open water fishing
« on: Apr 17, 2014, 09:28 AM »
Who goes out?  Do you post on myfishfinder?

I've recently registered over there, but it seems slow (though it's early).  I've gotten to really love iceshanty so I'm curious if I'll see any familiar names over there.

We just bought a new (to us) boat and I'm so anxious to get it in the water!

Congrats on the new boat! You should post a pic of it.
A lot of familiar names on MFF you'll notice.
I find it isn't as busy as IS is, and generally speaking the "chat" is a bit more mature and less condescending.
I post and post pics on occasion, but I don't post every 14" trout that I get. For me to post a pic trout have to be 16"+ and salmon 18"+ or if I went out with a fellow forum member and had a good time.
It is slow there right now but it will pick up soon. A lot of great anglers on there as well.
It must be something in the water.

Since you asked, I'm happy to show off the boat! :)  It's an 18.5' Striper.  Going in this weekend to get a kicker motor installed so we can troll as slowly as we want to.  We searched high and low for the "perfect" combination of fishing and pleasure boat (we have two kids, 8 & 10) and this was it.  We can't wait!

That's a nice sized boat to have. You'll find the big lakes can get nasty & you'll be glad you have the bigger boat. My first investment after the kicker would be a trolling plate. Some like to drag around buckets, but I've had good luck with my plate. :)

Why would you need a trolling plate if you have a kicker?
