Derby???

My uncle just texted me. Apparently there's a derby going on in a few weeks that a few guys wanna put on. I hear they are from his area so I'm guessing the derby is at Oak Lake or maybe Pelican. My questions are:

1. Is the season not closed?
2. If it is, how is this possible?

Isn't this illegal? I read the regs and assuming this must be in the northern part of Manitoba. From what I understand the season is still open there (sorry, but I'm kinda new at this but that's the way I interpreted the rules).

Did you mean MMF? Did a bit more research and a derby could be legit. Also, I have had more success drifting and bottom bouncing on open water than trolling. I find it hard to believe with the weather we had there's open water anywhere!

Simple read from the regulation shows fishing closed from April 1st to May 10th.  Season to open May 11th.  Maybe they are planning something for opening day?
