Constantia/ Oneida fish hatchery
« on: Mar 30, 2014, 06:50 PM »
Was thinking of making a trip out next weekend just wondering with all this late ice we have if I should wait a week or so?    I know that last year the eyes were there April 1st when the hatchery opened

Keep checking DEC's website under "Central New York Fishing Report". Under the Oneida Lake report they will tell you when the egg take process is taking place.

I definitely would not plan on going next weekend. They need the ice off the lake before they will set the nets. That is going to be a real issue this year. Not sure if they have a plan B to try and net the fish in the creek itself.

Any word if they have started taking eggs yet?    I've called 3* with no answer.   Thanks

They said they are going to try to put net's out Friday and if all goes well could be taking egg's Sunday.

Call the hatchery direct at 1-(315)623-7311 and check this weekend.

I just saw the hatchery boys out setting the nets off the mouth of Scriba!

I have never seen them set nets with this much ice left on the lake. Should be some eyes in the hatchery tomorrow or Sunday for sure!!!

Wow, that must be a wild ride today. I just looked at the webcam in Bernhard Bay, it's foggy but the lake appears to be rough and the ice is piled pretty high. Hope the ice doesn't destroy the nets.

Me and my son went to the hatchery today they were unloading fish in the morning and harvesting eggs after lunch. The hatchery had some good examples of all the fish in the lake including a couple mud puppies for the kids to see. It was amazing the size of the perch that were  being released back in to the lake. Should have some hatched fish in about three weeks
