Hey:
At the end of the day, you all will either hate me or go into THINK mode !!!
It is OVER folks, it is over...Think spring PLEASE...
I know you all are still fishing upper Notheast/Northwest lakes/ponds.......
While they appear safe, this time of year, they are not. Sun is way too close to the Earth...
This results in POUROUS ICE !!
You can walk onto 10" of March, now, April ice and go through !! Maybe more than 10"

??
Either way, all I am saying is this.................. ...................... ...................... ............
I am pleased to have talked to you all and enjoyed reading your threads, being accepted and having a voice.......
If YOU choose to go further, into the Ice Fishing Season, Be Careful !!!
Remember, this is not just you, but, YOUR FAMILIES & FRIENDS !!!
I am thinking soft water & Turkeys, hope you are rethinking your weekend

Well said, My stuff got put away today, charged the battery in the Miata and started getting mentally prepared to replace prop seals and water pump in the outboard.

how come last week when i said the same thing, people like iowa accord denigrated my observations? all i wanted to do was maybe save a life or two. i was in this cold water on
a canoeing trip on march 1st on the housatonic river many years ago. we were very lucky we lived. i hope the die hards will be safe. i lost some friends in my life who thought they were immortal.

People like me lol! Here's the deal, if your done, your done that's great. However no need to be so dramatic about the ice. Guys who know how to be safe on late ice will and some guys will skip it all together.

Just because your done doesn't mean you need to preach about how dangerous and suggest any post is going to save lives is dramatic. Heck there is a pond in the berks that still has over 30" of ice!

...and weneric while I thank you for thinking of me I really don't care what you or anyone else says or does so if you took one of my posts the wrong way there isn't much I can do about that.

Preaching about how dangerous the ice is at this time of yr.Is a correct statement,if it saves one life,its not dramatic, Its posted in Ct.icefishing.68 Trout is only being up front about his feeling for other ice fisherman,That are still going ice fishing, Its still your choice to go or not. Our site can use a few more friendly postings,lets keep it civil. The clear massage is ,If you are still icefishing,be safe about it,no one told you ,you have to stop. It's very hard to fall through 14" of ice

Stop the preaching and forget about the ice when your done. Last thing we need is our over powered government telling us its no longer safe. OH and for those who quit early, you have no idea of what you miss.

Just because your one lake isn't safe doesn't mean the whole state of ct is done. There are still some spots in ct that still have plenty of ice with good edges.

Can't give the guy crap for looking out for people. By the way this is a ct section so were talking about CT ice not Mass or NY. If it bothers you so much just ignore it.

Thanks, just as I said, it is NOW very uncertain, yes,
in Connecticut, not other states!!
You need to check the OTHER STATES web sites and
make your own decision.......
Look I am NOT the preacher, just a fellow Ice Fisherman,
that HAS gone through the ice, in March.
Please, do what you please, just be careful....

I was out the other day with my dad and we had well over 30" of ice it was so thick at one place the auger wouldn't make it through the ice we had to chisel it with the spud the rest of the way but it was worth it as we caught a bunch of perch. There is safe ice if your willing to drive.

thank you, northeast fisherman. 68 trout and i were not trying to be dramatic. the experienced guys know what they are doing. we were just trying to help the others, kind of like the guy in oxford. i guess i'm going to quit this post. i don't like the attitude of some.

My season is over, packed the stuff away today. I'm sure there is ice out there but with 2 boats that need some work and being too old to go for a swim I'm done. Never met a fish worth a swim, just my opinion.

Looks like my season in SW CT is done. However, Id be willing to make it out 1 more time. If anyone wants to pm me any locations in SW or NW CT that are still fairly safe, I'd be more than happy to fish them

Yes, March, in Connecticut, was exceptional, but, at the end of the day, we all need to be careful.
That is all that I wanted to say...

I lost a 70 year old friend who fell through late ice and I understand that some times it takes reading it in print to realize how unsafe it is this time of the year . You preachers of doom and gloom really are doing alot of good ;Keep it up and tight lines folks!!!
