pike champlain
« on: Mar 26, 2014, 04:57 AM »
Making a trip to burlington to see friends this weekend... thinking about bringing my buddy pike fishing. Hes all about it the summer and never has done it through the ice or ice fished in general. Any ideas on what area or how much water they may be in up there, this time of year?
A bad day of fishing, is always better than a good day at work!

Table 2 and 3 (Champlain) water bodies are open all year to pike.

Dilenbeck or Missisqoui bays are good bets. Sandbar and Gut also would be good. Should be moving into the shallows so I would set up from 12' to as little as 3' of water. Wish I could get up there this weekend. Who knows maybe it will still be fishable when I come up for opening of tout season
Hard water Tight lines Flags up. Doesn't get any better than that

I drove out and fished on about 30" of ice 2 weeks ago today.  The northern part of the lake is gonna be good for a while yet.

There will be a lot of ice for a while, but getting on and off will become impossible after the first few warm days.  I'll have to invest in a plank to keep the season going.

I haven't heard of much action on Carry this year.  I don't know what the deal is there but the sandbar seems to be just as slow.  I fished the Sandbar a couple weeks ago with a friend and we only caught 4 small pickerel, a perch and a bowfin.  You would think the pike would be moving in at some point.  Maybe the good March spots will be good April spots this year.
