Lake Winipeg trip Picture Heavy
« on: Mar 21, 2014, 12:24 PM »
I know everyone is getting the boats ready to go, but we just returned from our annual winnpeg trip.  monster greenbacks, 48 inches of ice, with 2 to 3 feet of snow on top.  The lake is massive, and takes tons of work and effort to find the fish, but when you do, its epic!
It took us 4 days to finally find the big fish, but when we did it was big fish, all day, and a 25 incher was just average.  We stuck countless fish from 25 to 30 inches.  All fish were released, except for we each kept a 30 incher for the wall, and some 18 inchers for a hot oil bath on the ice.  Biggest one was 30 inches, and a fat 12.6 lbs.  Counting the days until next year March madness greenback hunting.

If you dont mind me asking brother, how much does your yearly trip to Winny set you back? Thinking real hard about trying to make it work this year depending on work and funds.

Lots of happy faces in those pics for sure, I seen a babe winkelman show a while back and they stayed at a lodge that caters to ice fisherman,  I remember him talking about thd services they provide, pick up from the airport, meals a knowledgeable guide if you want one , shantys with transportation to and from, lunches you name it they would provide it just cant remember the name of the place it did look very nice so I would have to think it would be very pricey but im sure theres other cheaper options if you do a little research I love to hook up on some fish like that but I dont see it in the near future but someday im going to make it on a trip like that ;D

We do it all on our own, and the trip runs about 1500 per person, driving from Ogallala.  WE stay at South Beach Casino on the sout east side of lake.  Already have the reservations for this year.
