Got my buddy on some nice brook trout by accident while trying to find perch. He caught two. This one is 17" and the other one he got was 15.5". They were nice healthy females full of eggs so back they went!

That's strange. Brookies are fall spawners. Maybe it takes a long time for the eggs to develop.

That's what my friend and I were talking about when the eggs just started falling out of them. We kinda scratched our heads and got in the water asap

I have fished the catskill reservoirs for years. I have had fully developed eggs fall out of rainbows in spring, summer and fall. go figure???

Might be able to ice fish some ponds this year for April first that you wouldn't normally. That's great for spots that don't allow boats. Hint. Real nice fish, man!

Most trout ponds don't permit ice fishing so even if it is April you can't ice fish them

fish response to environmental things like-light,temp,season,energy reserves.but some times the junk in
the water will change this in the hypothalamic centers of the pituitary,which will relese gonadotropins, this
will stimulate growth of the both male/female gonads[may be the reason for the early egg growth
this is just a though

And another brookie. That was just under 2lbs! Biggest one I've ever seen. I know where I'm fishing as soon as ice is gone ( will be well after the 1st ).
